Come enjoy some of San Diego's forgotten beauty in this gorgeous, Piute Trail mountain cabin overlooking Lake Cuyamaca and just minutes from the quaint little town of Julian. During your stay, you'll have a chance to see wild deer grazing in the nearby pastures below, wild turkey foraging up and down the hillside (sometimes they even visit the deck!), raccoon's getting into their usual mischief, bald eagles soaring above or swooping in for a quick meal, owls, orioles, blue-jays, migratory ducks & geese, woodpeckers... and the list goes on! If you're into bird watching and/or photography, this is a great place for both! Using the cabin as a base camp, you'll be able to explore Cuyamaca Rancho State Park and Cleveland National Forest ,Anza-Borrego State Park with their many trails and viewpoints; fish for Florida bass, smallmouth bass, trout, crappie, bluegill, channel catfish, and even white sturgeon (Yes, our lake has sturgeon!); picnic on Fletcher Island; go boating; or just take in the peaceful surroundings and vast views from the comfort of the cozy cabin! Open year-round, including the snowy winter months when you can take advantage of the local sledding and snowboarding terrain. Available by reservation only, so plan early! We loved this cozy and clean cabin! The views of the lake were incredible, and it had everything we needed, including plenty of kitchen appliances, blankets, and towels. The fireplace made it extra cozy, and the large porch was perfect for relaxing and enjoying the scenery. We loved watching the turkeys wander by. Short walk or drive to the lake. We had a great stay and would definitely come back!

Our third time staying at this cabin and just as wonderful an experience as the first couple times, we really enjoyed spending time in the covered front deck watching birds for hours. It was a great location to visit ample outdoor areas and still visit some great restaurants in nearby communities. We stayed here while running the San Diego 100m and it’s a fanatic location very close to the start/finish line and easy drive to aid stations. Love this location and highly recommend!

The only suggestion we have is that the decking be reviewed for safety. There are a couple of loose boards, one of which is a tripping hazard. We have used this property a number of times and always been pleased to stay there.

Love this place! Beautiful view of the lake, clean and organized cabin and close to Julian and a good local restaurant - The Pub. John was great at communicating with us. I hope to be back in March.
