appearances are deceiving

The hotel looks neat, the lobby is tidy, the staff is friendly, the breakfast is reasonable. I know you can't expect much from a two-star hotel, but in this case, the hygiene of the room left much to be desired. The bathroom was filthy and had mold everywhere. After showering, the drain started to stink. This sewer smell lingered all night. We were planning to stay longer if the hotel had been satisfactory. I am aware that you cannot expect much from a 2-star hotel, but at least a little bit of hygiene would be nice.
