Making Memories is centrally located on the first floor and conveniently located next to the coin-operated laundry facility (which even offers an ocean view). The Durant Station Condominiums offer spectacular ocean views from every property. All condos have private, 28-foot oceanfront decks, as well as sound side decks for viewing colorful sunsets. Elevator service to all levels makes Durant Station a most convenient choice for all ages: no need to haul luggage and groceries up long flights of stairs! Guests are just a few short steps to the ocean via a private wooden walkway. The Hatteras area offers some of the best fishing and sunbathing on the East Coast.
At Durant Station, you'll enjoy a host of amenities including one of Hatteras Islands' largest private pools with an adjacent hot tub available from April 1 to January 1. The Durant Station Community Center is 'crowned' by the original historic Durant Lifesaving Station tower, a rich piece of Hatteras Islands past. Although this condo could do with some updating it's still a nice place to stay. Excellent location and easy walk to the beach. Would recommend!

Management should consider a new cleaning service
On the plus side, the location is great if you prefer a more secluded location away from the crowds, and the unit had what we were looking for in terms of number of bedrooms, proximity to the beach, availability of a pool and hot tub and accessibility for older guests via the elevator.
There were a few unfortunate downsides to our stay, in particular, the cleanliness of the unit and the seating options.
It was clear that the place had not been thoroughly cleaned in some time:
-The floors were extremely dirty when we arrived; to the point that my socks were very discolored after walking around for a few hours.
-There was a used floss pick in one of the nightstand drawers
-There was mold on the drain catcher in the kitchen sink.
-There were dishes from the previous renters sitting in the dishwasher.
-The bathtub drain was clogged, resulting in water standing in the tub while showering. (The management office promptly sent someone over to resolve this issue when we called to report it on the second day).
-We found several bugs, both dead and alive in the unit during our stay.
In addition, although the condo sleeps six, there is only seating for four in the living room (not counting bar stools) and the sofa was so uncomfortable to sit on that we ended up setting up a beach chair to use instead. Something to be aware of if you plan to spend any time relaxing at the condo.
Overall we had a nice stay, but it would have been greatly enhanced if the place had been cleaner and we had a comfortable place to sit at the end of the day.
