Suflora – Thinker's Residence: Relax and/or work undisturbed in the “Valley of Genius”

In the green heart of Italy, in the region of Umbria, lies a valley where a temple dedicated to the guardian spirit “Genius” was built over 2,000 years ago. Over the centuries, “Valle Ingenio” became “Vallingegno,” and a Benedictine abbey was built on the ruins of the temple.

Just a few hundred meters from this abbey, on a hill with a picturesque view of the Vallingegno Valley, lies Suflora, a centuries-old watchtower around which a stately residence was built around 1800. The entire building was completely renovated in 2024.

The Etruscan Suite is ideal for two couples or up to four friends, as the beds in both bedrooms can be configured with two single beds or one double bed in each, depending on your preference.

Two en-suite bathrooms feature ample storage space, plush hand and bath towels, shampoo, conditioner, shower gel, body lotion, and a hair dryer.

The spacious kitchen is equipped with a dishwasher, a 5-burner gas stove, an electric oven, a refrigerator, and a freezer. Depending on the season, the herb and vegetable garden offers delicacies that can be served directly on the antique dining table—or enjoyed al fresco in the garden.

The living room features an open fireplace, a couch, a TV, and a checkers table.

Two desks are available: one is located in one of the bedrooms, and the other in the living room.

In addition to central heating, there is a pellet stove in the kitchen, which ensures cozy evenings at the antique dining table.

Outdoor Area
The garden features a small pool, several seating areas (lounge chairs, dining tables, hammocks, and sun loungers), and, of course, the unique view of the Vallingegno. Wi-Fi is also available in the garden.

Surrounding Area
We are surrounded by medieval towns that have retained their charm and authenticity. The nearest town, Gubbio, is just a 15-minute drive away. In less than an hour, you can reach Assisi, Perugia, Spello, Spoleto, and many other towns that are every bit as beautiful and atmospheric as the “more famous” cities of Tuscany, but far less crowded.

In short, Umbria is the ideal region for you if you want to experience art, culture, and history in peace and quiet.

Activities
A hiking trail runs right past the house and is perfect for anyone with “proper footwear.” On our 10 hectares, there are less demanding walking paths, for example through our newly planted olive grove.

If you’d like to get creative, you can pick up canvases, paints, and brushes from us. Or get your hands dirty in the garden—all while enjoying a breathtaking view.


Traveling without a car?
If you’re traveling without a car and don’t want to rent one, we can pick you up from Perugia (airport, train station, or FlixBus).
There are bus connections between Gubbio and Perugia several times a day. The nearest bus stop is 800 meters from Suflora.

We offer a grocery delivery service twice a week: Just send us a list before 7:30 a.m. on Wednesdays and Saturdays, and your groceries will be conveniently delivered right to your doorstep.
