THE DESIGN
The room blends Jacobean and Elizabethan Revival styles with a touch of Scotland and Ireland: oak and mahogany furnishings, leather accents, tartan plaids, tweeds and velvets in deep earth tones. Scottish landscapes and small nods to Burns' life as a constable and marksman complete the space.

THE STORY
John L. Burns was Gettysburg's celebrated civilian hero. At 69, he took up his rifle on July 1, 1863, and fought alongside the 7th Wisconsin and the Iron Brigade's 24th Michigan. He is the only documented civilian to fight with the Union Army at Gettysburg. He was wounded three times and survived by convincing Confederate soldiers he was only a bystander.
