THE STORY
The room honors one of Gettysburg's most moving stories: the friendship between Union General Winfield Scott Hancock and Confederate General Lewis Armistead. Close friends from their years in the pre-war army, they met on opposite sides of the battle on July 3, 1863, when Armistead was mortally wounded leading his men into the Union line Hancock commanded during Pickett's Charge.
