Friendly owner, spacious apartment but in need of updating. Check in was easy - host was waiting with keys.Kitchen was stocked with basics but could do with some new investment for example, sharper knives and oven settings have been rubbed off. Pillows and pillow cases could do with a refresh. Second bedroom is a converted garage with no sound proofing - it was quite noisy.

Immersive experience

My friend and I received excellent instructions from the host on how to locate the property. The property is about 30 minutes from the airport in Old Town. It is up a very steep hill that’s great for exercise enthusiasts. My friend and I walked 30 minutes into town daily but we took the 5 minute bus ride back. One issue we had was the island temperature was hot with high humidity and the host did not provide fans. We could have opened the patio door but I saw geckos and decided against that idea. Another issue we had was one the first day there we walked into town but we were unable to find our way back. Of course, it was our fault for not taking photos of the road signs. However, we tried phoning the host and was sent immediately to voicemail. To make matters worse my phone wifi wasn’t working. Fortunately, we were able to go into a bar and use the wifi to find our way back.

Ruime woonkamer en balkon/terras, de keuken had alles wat we nodig hadden. Grote slaapkamer is top, met ventilator. De slaapkamer achter in het huis heeft een beetje weinig zuurstof voor 3 personen. Kleine cafeetjes zijn er in de buurt, grotere winkels iets verder in het centrum. De bus 31 en 31A stopt vlakbij het huis.

Alles sauber und ordentlich.Zur Altstadt von Funchal zu Fuß ca., 20 Minuten, für den Rückweg sollte man etwas Kondition haben, es geht bergauf. Die Wohnung war sehr sauber. Der Zustand war für uns okay. Die Unterkunft ist etwas in die Jahre gekommen und viele Kleinigkeiten waren defekt. Insgesamt kein Drama, aber insbesondere die Küche sollte auagetauscht werden. Die Schränke sind durch Feuchtigkeit aufgequollen und es schlägt einem beim Öffnen der Schranktüren ein unangenehmer Geruch entgegen.Die Lage ist Luftlinie nicht weit von der City entfernt, jedoch hat es die Steigung in sich. Wer nicht fit ist, der kommt beim Aufstieg an seine Grenzen. Für alle anderen ist es ein cooles Fitnesstraining. ;)

Het huis was zeer netjes en ruim .De tuin is heerlijk om na een drukke dag even tot rust te komen. Wij gingen meestal met een taxi van uber of bolt naar het centrum. Dat kost ongeveer 5 euro per rit en scheelt je veel kramp in de kuiten We hebben een heerlijk verblijf gehad. Als ik weer terug kom naar madeira zou ik dit appartement zeker weer overwegen. De eigenaar is superbehulpzaam en vriendelijk.

Value for Money.

Do not be put off by the negative comments re the bus service.Two buses 31 and 31A have stops just down the road level with the property.There is also a 34 which drops you off further up the hill leaving just a gentle down hill stroll to the property. A further 4 services drop you off near the bakery and shop which OK is a uphill walk to the property but only takes 10 minutes and once you find the pedestrian stairs is OK

Ruhig gelegen und geräumig

Die sehr geräumige Wohnung für bis zu 4 Personen liegt etwas abseits der Innenstadt in einem ruhigen Villenvorort. Mit dem Bus, der ca 100 m vom Haus entfernt hält, kommt man gut und günstig in und aus der City. Für den kleinen Einkauf ist ca 10 Minuten zu Fuß ein kleiner Supermarkt und ein Bäcker zu finden. Die Höhenunterschiede sind, wie fast überall auf Madeira auch hier zu beachten... ;)

Gute ruhige Lage

Die Wohnung ist in einer ruhigen Lage oberhalb der Altstadt Funchal. Die ist über eine sehr steile Straße kurzfristig zu erreichen; der Rückweg ist sehr anstrengend (Alternative: Bushaltestelle nach ein paar Metern). Die Terrasse ist zum Essen und zum Sonnen schön (Südlage). Die Ausstattung ist spartanisch, doch uns hat hier nichts lebensnotwendige gefehlt. Wir haben beim Kochen häufig improvisiert. Kritik: Die Küchenausstattung ist unter allen Ansprüchen: drei Tassen für eine Wohnung mit sieben Schlafplätzen. Sehr zusammengewürfelt und nach Verlust nicht ergänzt. Hier sollte auf alle Fälle nachgebessert werden. Ansonsten war es ein toller Urlaub in dieser Wohnung.

Nice and large apartement in a quiet area

This is a nice, clean, large, friendly and practical apartement. The kitchen is practical and well equipped, the dining table is very nice and there is a fine terrace. The area is mostly quiet, nice with large houses and gardens, quite close to Funchal centre. There are no shops in the nearest area, except a bakery. There is easy to find a parking place, but the streets around are very steep. You walk easily down to the old town in 15 minutes, but back again we preferred a taxi - costs 6-7 euros. The bus No 21 from the centre to Botanic gardens runs somewhat infrequent in the evening. The owner was reliable and provided good service. We will clearly reccommend this apartement, and we well rent it again when we go back to Madeira.'

Nice Place to stay, with some negative points

We are 3 persons and we stay at this place for 12 days. Madeira is a very beautiful and varied island. To recommend special to hike (the Levadas are uniquely) ,to enjoy unique plants, animals and the varied climate. The Contact with the owner went smoothly and the keys were handed over without problems. The problem of the flat is the second bedroom, which is an expanded garage. Since the other garages in the yard are not expanded, there is a lot of traffic noise. Also there is no ventilate properly, because there are only two small dormer windows (see photo). The kitchen is very well equipped, but the cupboards smell very musty. The climb to the apartment turned out to be very stressful, because the apartment is accessible only by steep streets. All in all we enjoyed it very well.

Lovely Apartment

Large, clean, well maintained apartment, with sunny terrace and a well equiped kitchen. Close to the beautiful old town of Funchal with many excellent restaurants and bars. This apartment is up a very steep hill as is a lot of Funchal, we found the walk down took about 20 minutes but a lot longer to walk up, however there are many Taxis which cost between 4-6 Euros depending on where you get in. The bus stop is just at the end of the street and they seem to be every 20-30 minutes and cost 1.10 Euro. The first trip on the bus costs 1.80 for a bus card that you can then top up in some shops and machines with credits for further journeys which are 1.10 Euro each. We found this a great place to stay as it was a quiet area with all you need just a short distance away such as restaurants, bars and supermarkets. The owner responded to all my emails quickly answering all the little questions I had and has provided an excellent and friendly service. We would love to go back.
