I've stayed in this property previously and found it to be much better then than during my recent stay, with it previously having had a restaurant/bar & staff on site. Since it was taken over, the restaurant/bar is no longer open and there are no staff on site (I was aware of this but it does make such a big difference to have the personal touch and somewhere to eat ).
I was completely unaware that, on our first night, the disused restaurant had been hired out for a student event. This went on until around 10.30pm with live music and a door constantly banging shut every few minutes right below our room which was really irritating after a long journey. It would have helped if I'd been previously advised of this as would likely have booked elsewhere. On 2nd night we were woken by a loud engine noise around 11.15pm and looked out of window to see a tractor removing a large skip which had been at the back of the hotel building!
The room itself was clean although could have done with an extra chair or a space in the hotel with somewhere to sit or even a small kitchen made available to replace lack of a restaurant. The daily housekeeping was very basic, with mugs/glasses being unchanged over the 4 nights of our stay, duvet put on wrong way around, ashtray outside in smokers area not noticeably emptied. The description also stated a garden, I'm assuming the outside smokers table was this.
Overall it did the job but such a shame it has no current facilities or on site staff.
