A classic pub, the building is old but it is a lovely place to stay, 2 minute walk from the starcross train station. (which also has the ferry to Exmouth)
The room was clean, bright and comfortable and the owners are very accommodating. Would happily stay here again
Very happy with our stay. Extension lead was faulty but that was the only issue. Beds were comfortable and room did what we asked of it. Loved the generous amount of milk available for the coffees in the morning
Bed was comfortable and room appeared clean etc. However, the room advertised as having a restaurant and WiFi available. Restaurant was closed and there was no WiFi at all in the room I stayed in.
It did the job for one night away somewhere but I wouldn't go back or recommend to others.

Liked: Cleanliness, room comfort
At check in the lady was very friendly. She showed us to our room. It was clean. The beds were comfortable but the spray air freshener kept waking my older son up. O. The email thing it said check out at 11am but in the room it said 10am. So we left at 10am but we were not told what to do with the he keys to our room.
I'll start with the positives the bed was comfy, bedding was clean. I booked a room for me to share with my brother, unfortunately they only had a bouble bed available so we had to share. We're both tall guys but still had plenty of room.
It was only for the night so we made the best of it.
The wifi was ridiculous, couldn't get a decent signal inside the building. The TV was tiny and dusty. The room itself pretty much only fit the bed and two tiny bedside tables. The rest of the room was clean though.
The music from the pub was loud but they stopped the music pretty early so I can't really complain about that. We spent ages trying to find somewhere to eat because their kitchen was closed. I work in a pub so I know it cant always be helped.
The woman that checked us in was nice and friendly and the pub itself had a friendly atmosphere with the few people in there. Weirdly they seemed a bit reserved with us. Got a few funny looks from the other guests. My brother doesn't look much like me so I hope wasn't anything to do with homophobia as we often get confused as a couple.
Overall this could be an ok stay. Bit pricey for what we got but if you just need a bed and a drink its not a bad choice.
Room above a pub accessed by external staircase, basic but large and clean room
Main issue was that the room was cold and the electric radiator wasn't good enough to heat large room in December.
Quirky but clean room, great location right across the road from the ferry to Exmouth and train station.
Could do with offering a breakfast service as there is not even a toaster in the room, just a Spar store a few meters away.
Very friendly staff throughout our stay
Budget prices but still with comfortably sized room, bed was comfortable and everything was spotless. Bathroom was small and the pub was a bit noisy but superb value for money, the staff were very friendly and went above and beyond for me.
Helpful staff, but a kitchen refurb meant no food at the pub and no breakfast. Ensuite was quite dated, shower was mouldy and electric hot water heater to the shower didn't work.
Clean and basic room. Beds were very comfortable. Wonderful view from the window. The only issue was that in the adjoining room with the single beds, the curtains were a foot shorter than the window and the pub sign with a light on it was right outside. Therefore the room was lit up really brightly all night. I would suggest blackout curtains be fitted. Otherwise a pleasant stay.

Good value
Stayed here before a wedding in the local vacinity. Good price, friendly landlady, and absolutely perfect for my needs. Not a 5 star hotel by any means but did the job, good value.

Nothing actually wrong with the place, it’s a pub that offers rooms, the rooms are clean but very dated there was a kettle and some tea/coffee making facilities but the tv was tiny as was the shower, I know I’m a larger lady but I only just managed to get in. There was no signage to help say where to go to book in and the landlady didn’t actually tell me where to book out or where to leave my key. There’s no where to have breakfast and no option even to have a buffet type breakfast in your room. Overall it did the job after a long weekend working, I had a clean bed for the night before the long drive back home.
