Avoid, hotel stinks and is run down.

All rooms in this hotel have one category: twin, rundown and stinky. We booked a double bed for a higher rate and on arrival were given a twin room. They did not offer to move us to our category or even join the beds, since that's all they offer. Following a claim they also refuse to refund the difference. The smell of mold in this place is borderline hazardous. The fire alarm went off twice in the early morning, with no rush to investigate as it seemed like a common occurrence to staff. There were several broken fixtures, including the handle for our window. Breakfast was standard, but slow.

Hotel is looking very tired. Badly requires an update. Hotel was also very expensive for what it was. Food also very expensive (£23 for a burger and chips) Majority of rooms that we were in were dirty. Not impressed and won’t be staying there again.

Great Stay

Stayed one night as a family before heading to airport. Rooms a little tired but clean and very spacious. Comfortable beds and quiet. There was an event on when we stayed and when we walked to our room I was very worried we'd hear it in our room but heard absolutely nothing. Staff were exceptional and great with the children. Swimming pool which was great too. We would definitely stay again.

Very enjoyable place to rest from overwhelming city, quite and peaceful, a great place to relax. 15-20 min by train to Edinburgh so you can enjoy the city without being worried about traffic and parking.

Great option for early flights

Hotel is lovely. Large room. Free parking. Restaurant on site. Perfect for an overnight before an early flight out of Edinburgh Airport. It is less than 7 miles away.

Nice building and setting but needs investment

Lovely tower house, nice setting and convenient location. I stay with work but the usual problems with Macdonald hotels - lack of investment, the place is quite run down. This time my room was also not very clean, floor was filthy - even found a pair of tweezers which were in the middle of the floor and looked to have been there a while! Staff are always helpful and doing their best.

Anniversary stay

at check in it was ok receptionist was friendly & polite, Had to walk outside to the annex for our room in which i was not aware when booked. Bar for drinks is very expensive and bar maid kept disappearing, Strong smell of cannabis at reception & bar area in the evening which was not very nice and staff were not interested. Restaurant was like a morgue food was not nice very over priced waited a long time for food to arrive, staff were not helpful had to keep asking .Breakfast was disappointing again had to keep asking, When checking out did not get asked if our stay was ok. Overall the hotel is very tired and NO i would not come back again

Although there was a little issue with the configuration of our room set up, we booked a twin and the room set up was a king… that was fixed before we had even consumed our first drink in the very atmosphere hotel bar.. beautiful hotel, wonderful team, yummy food and fantastic team.

Disappointing stay

Very disappointed to say this is Supposed to be a 4 star hotel. The "spa" facilities are very poor, no whirlpool/jacuzzi, steam room was out of order and sauna was packed full of gym lads. Changing rooms were also crowded and unclean. We had no towels on arrival and had to ask 4 times! At reception before finally getting some. Bathroom was not cleaned at all during our stay, would have been nice for cleaners to at least give the sink and toilet a quick clean.

Charming, quaint outside of the hustle and bustle

The ladies at the front desk were wonderful. Everyone was exceptionally kind, and the food was outstanding. The service in the restaurant was excellent as well. I highly recommend the haddock.
