The location is great if you want to be in the heart of the tourist district, so perfect for a first-time visit to Edinburgh. It's clean, has a cool vibe and the beds are super comfortable for a hostel. But there's really no place to hang out except for the tiny restaurant downstairs, which I think doubles as a tour group meetup space, so it always seemed overcrowded. There were only 2 mens toilets for the whole floor I was on -- not nearly enough, so they were always busy, at all hours, and even though staff made an effort to keep them clean it got pretty gross. They will also absolutely spam you with texts after you make your reservation. Staff seemed harried, annoyed, and unfriendly. If you arrive during mid afternoon, expect a long line to check in.

Solid hostel, but the curtains on the top pods do little to keep out light as they don’t actually cover the pod. The charger port in my pod didn’t work to charge my phone or laptop and there was no convenient spot in the hostel to sit and charge my devices. There are 2 seats on one floor for the entire hostel so the lack of any common room was disappointing.

Actually the best hostel to stay! Very safe very accessible and really nice atmosphere. Best part is the group chat with other travelers to do activities with! Just pretty awesome!!

We stayed in the quadruple room with a view of the city. The room and bathroom were clean! The room smelled fresh! The staff was friendly. We felt welcome. The location is amazing! Walkable to Edinburgh Castle and to many restaurants and shops! Being able to store our belongings before and after checkout was a nice perk. Will 100% stay at this property again.

This place has pros and cons—it’s in a stellar location on the royal mile for exploring, and the staff are so kind and helpful, plus the jail cell doors/etc are really fun and unique. However, I wouldn’t advise for light sleepers—this place is LOUD. B

overall the hostel is located on the royal mile which is very convenient. everything is nearby. rooms & bathrooms are cleanly; staff tried to clean them as often as they can but at times when they aren’t able to they do get quite messy because of those who stay. dorms are very simple but walking space is quite small. many people leave their belongings out in the open/everywhere so it gets quite messy if you have messy strangers in your dormitory. in the basement the sewer smell is quite atrocious when stepping out of the elevator & people can be very loud in your dorms w/ no consideration of others. overall the stay itself was nice like mentioned since it’s in a great location

Location is amazing, staffs are so helpful but very poor amenities . You have to lend the shower towel , it cost 3 euros( very ridiculous) . No shower gel, no shampo . Just one type of gel in the shower room . For all purposes. To wash your hands as well.

CoDE was a great place to stay in Edinburgh! Right in the heart of old town. The staff were all nice and the food/drinks reasonably priced. The private room was small and the street noise a bit loud at times but overall it felt really safe and good value for the location!
