Some cottages feel like a rental. This one feels like it belongs to someone who loves it.

The whole place is wrapped in warm knotty pine and cedar, from the shingled exterior with green shutters and flower boxes to the tongue-and-groove ceiling of the screened porch where the woods press right up to the screens. Inside, a peaked cedar ceiling with a skylight fills the main room with natural light. A plush daybed piled with linen cushions, a full stainless kitchen with sage cabinets and a real stove, and a flat-screen TV for when the day finally winds down. Everything sits within a few easy steps of everything else.

The bedroom tucks behind glass French doors, with crisp white bedding, a striped wool blanket, and treetops through the window. The bathroom has a rope-framed mirror and Molton Brown soaps and balsam fir room spray waiting on the shelf.

Out back: 2 cushioned chairs, a picnic table, and a charcoal grill under the trees. When you're ready to rinse off after the beach, the cedar outdoor shower open to the sky is the best room in the house.
