The city hotel was great but awkward parking they dont have alot of parking spaces and to many stairs for me but had a great stay friendly staff food very good
We were in room 7. It was a quiet room as looked onto a courtyard. A little on the small side, especially the bathroom. Bed was comfortable. It had a fan in the room which was useful. Breakfast a little disappointing, the hollandaise sauce on egg benedict did not have much flavour. Although I guess thats very individual.
I liked the fact that it was central in Dunfermline and just down from the town centre. Breakfast was included both nights. Rooms were clean but the view and size of the window (small) for room size let's it down
I was allocated Executive
Room 1 by the night porter, a pernicious and humourless soul. The room was basic with
a crack in the tiles below the
shower and a top sash window
permanently open by an inch at the top (at the head of the bed)and impossible
to close up without a stick as it
was behind the lower sash. Very poor workmanship.
The glass shower-room shelf
above the sink sloped down at a gradient away from the wall,
so wasn't worth using in case
of personal items potentially
falling onto the sink. The shower-room was clean.
I had a terrible night's sleep
with a constant drip noise
coming from a faucet in one
of the nearer rooms plus a
cycle of being too hot under
the duvet to being freezing
without it and a crick developed in my right shoulder due to the uncloseable window. Once I managed to drift off to some semblence of what was a light sleep, I was rudely awoken by the fire alarm bell test at 6.30am! 'Is the porter a sadist?' I asked myself. The bell sounded like it was right
outside my room door and
continued to ring for at least
thirty seconds.
The shower was basic.
The breakfast menu says there's a 'vegetarian breakfast'
option which is what I chose. It was OK except the mushrooms were bland with no seasoning and tasted like they may have been fried beside meat. I could not recommend this menu to any vegan friends. The breakfast staff were polite and charming, offering a range of starter options. Shame about the room, porter, alarm and 70s cooking.

Liked: Cleanliness, staff & service
The executive room we had was very clean & spacious.
However the blinds do not sufficiently block out the morning light.
Woken at 4am with seagulls outside & a staff member shortly after mopping the decking area at the back. Neither of these were really overly noisy but the room had no double glazing & no sound proofing in any way.
It felt like the windows were all open.
The shower was large & again spotless, but no real water pressure.
I am a solo woman who was at the hotel for a respite break. I never felt uncomfortable at all during my stay. All the staff are lovely and very pleasant .
The City Hotel was comfortable and more than adequate with a variety of dining options and the staff were very accommodating with any request easily managed. Early morning wake up call and prepacked breakfast pack much appreciated.
Had a great stay at the City Hotel. Check-in was quick and easy, and the receptionist was friendly. My room was clean, tidy and contained everything I needed. Breakfast in the morning was delicious. I'd definitely stay at this hotel again, and highly recommend it.
