Disliked: Staff & service, amenities
Waited 2 hours for check-in, and the "private" room was only separated from another by a slat wall with open air. Immediately heard someone vomiting followed by another couple engaged in sex acts within 5 minutes of accessing the room around 6:30pm, barely any separation from them and immediately left. Have been denied a refund. Will never book at Basecamp again.
Beds were futons and the other furniture consisted of 2 folding camp chairs and a cooler. Room was cold with no obvious thermostat. Towels were extra. There were 3 wall hooks for hanging things up, but nothing else. Walls were very thin and neighbors were loud late into the evening. Traffic noise was also significant into the evening. Parking was across a busy street and despite parking spots being tagged with your room name, there was no actual enforcement of any kind. In fact, there was no visible staff onsite except for a bartender. Wifi was quite good.
Expect accommodations as if you were camping and bring *everything* you need, including furniture. Having to use your phone instead of a keycard was a bit awkward. Shared fridge for the entire facility was one of those dorm room fridges.
Basecamp was great, clean, and easy to find. Within walking distance to restaurants and breweries. Went to the Bar that was downstairs. Very happy that there were NA options. The staff was super helpful. The only complaint that I had was the boards at the top of each wall in the rooms filter light through; I usually sleep in total darkness. The complaint my kid had was that you can really hear your neighbors. Otherwise, we loved it and will be back!
This is perfect for someone needing only a place to sleep! The room was decent sized. The living area was nice as well, no tv’s anywhere but there are games which I enjoyed. The rooms are connected up at the top so you WILL hear the person next to you snoring. However I put my white noise on my phone and fell asleep instantly. Ear plugs are provided as well. Super clean place, recommend checking out altitude!
What a great find in Duluth! The bed was comfortable, the bathrooms were clean, the shower water was hot, and the kitchen area was appreciated. The staff were so kind and helpful! I enjoyed the bar, gift shop, and outdoors focused ambiance. The only downside was that I could hear my neighbors at times, but for the price and value it wasn't a big deal. I'll be back!
This is a beautiful new hostel. Please don't expect a hotel. The amenities are super trendy and new, but basic. Ok for the price but not great. While the rooms are separate, there is a lot of shared space and absolutely no soundproofing, as you should expect from a hostel. This is a great space for young outdoorsy types or travelers. I would not recommend this place for kids, and especially not babies. Bring earplugs!

Staying at this property was the worst traveling experience I’ve ever had. After 14 hours hiking & on the road, we arrive at this “camp” & cannot access our room. The code texted to me by the “offsite staff” doesn’t work. No problem, call the staff. Well, that only works if the offsite staff answers their damn phone. Then, the staff acts like you’re rude for bothering them. Their app operated locking system is jank. We had trouble all weekend. Other guests were smoking weed (legal yes but my 5 year old probably didn’t need to be in their cloud of it) in the common areas & partying like it was their own personal space. Absolutely no one on site to manage it. Then they’re all hung over at 10:00 am so screaming at you if you make noise in the common areas even when “quiet hours (joke)” are over at 9:00 am. This place is a disaster, not a safe place. Even the firefighters next store were talking about how poorly managed it is. Very strongly would not recommend.
Simple and comfy. Affordable too! Bathrooms were not always available at convenient times and you can hear everything from other guests but it is a lovely place to stay affordably.
I appreciate the staff and their willingness to make my trip worthwhile.

Room access via phone app was terrible - 1/2 of the time door would not unlock when device was pressed against it. Eventually it worked but only after multiple attempts. This marred an otherwise great experience.
Zenith Basecamp is one of the most intelligently designed and built hostels I've ever stayed in. I've been traveling the entire world extensively since 1993, and stayed in many hostels. I took my daughter there for her 6th birthday recently, as a launch pad for hiking and rockhounding in the North Shore. The thought that went into this place + the build quality can't be understated according me. Whoever built this place is cool as all get out and very thoughtful. The value for the price is unrivaled in the area, assuming you like hostels environments. This place designed to attract cool and thoughtful people, and it does.
Great location! Easy to walk to the local breweries and restaurants. Check-in was easy and our room was clean and spacious! We brought a box fan with to help with noise cancelling and we slept like babies. We’ll be back!
