The Space:
Tan Llan consists of a spacious, three-storey country house, and an adjacent renovated coaching house. There are six bedrooms in the Main House, three with en-suites, plus two en-suite bedrooms set in the eaves of the neighbouring Coach House, meaning a group of up to sixteen people can enjoy a holiday here. The main house also has a family bathroom, two ground-floor cloakrooms, a superb kitchen with a breakfast bar and large dining area, a utility room, a sitting room with open fire, a garden room and a reading area. The Coach House also offers a kitchen, a utility room, a sitting room with dining area and woodburner and a cosy snug. Outside, there are near 15 acres of wonderful grounds surrounding this superb retreat, with two patio areas, plenty of off road parking, plus well-kept lawns studded with tall, established trees. There's also an external games room housing a table tennis table, perfect for unpromising days. Enjoy an exceptional stay at Tan Llan.
The Neighborhood:
Set at the starting point of the sweeping Mawddach Estuary and caught between Snowdonia’s sea and mountain scenery, the small, peaceful village of Llanelltyd rests amongst climbing green hills, offering a perfectly peaceful holiday location for touring this vibrant area. The crumbling Cymer Abbey, a 12th century romantic ruin, and St Illtyd’s Church, thought to be one of the oldest in Wales, stand testament to the village’s past. There are plenty of pretty walks in the area with Llanelltyd Bridge, an ancient attractive footbridge crossing the shallows of the River Mawddach, offering the chance to settle on the shingled riverside in view of the nearby mountains. The River Mawddach hurries past, heading to the mouth of its estuary, with the Mawddach Trail, leading alongside the marbled, silky sands, offering a rewarding route for explorers. Llanelltyd has its own restaurant, which proudly offers panoramic sights and fine local fare, plus there are plenty of places to eat, interesting shops and quirky cafes to be found in Dolgellau, just two miles away. Barmouth is a short drive away, where you can enjoy a fun-filled family day beside the sea finished with traditional fish and chips on the harbour front beside its vast Blue Flag beach. Within easy driving distance guests can uncover much of Snowdonia's spectacular coast, take a nostalgic train trip by steam or conquer Cader Idris, Snowdon’s quieter counterpart. Enjoy a boat trip or test out exhilarating watersports, venture underground to unearth Snowdonia’s mining history, cycle or walk world-class tracks through thick forests with the Coed y Brenin park just five miles away, or learn of Snowdonia’s many castles and landmarks. Llanelltyd sits at the meeting of intertwining rivers and roads, providing a perfect touring base for day trips and discovery in this richly diverse destination. From immaculate sandy beaches to sheep-studded pastures framed by dramatic peaks, this striking area of Wales offers endless adventure and is certain to live long in the memory.
