It is one of the most popular tourist destinations on the European Bicycle Route R1. Since the year 2000, the garden kingdom Dessau-Wörlitz belongs to the world cultural heritage of the UNESCO. The UNESCO World Heritage Committee justified his admission as follows: »The Garden Kingdom Dessau-Wörlitz is an outstanding example of the implementation of philosophical principles of enlightenment in a landscape design that harmoniously combines art, education and business."The R1 follows the course of a two-thousand-year-old road across Europe, from the French Calais to the Netherlands, Germany, Poland and the Baltic States to St. Petersburg in Russia leads. It connects more than 3,000 km of its length with nine European countries. The European Bicycle Route R1 is considered by many to be the European cycle path par excellence.
