The hotel was an absolutely great value. Nice clean simple room, and the staff at check-in was super helpful. I left really early in the morning so really didn't have much of a chance to see what was around. There was a few convenience stores for quick snacks and a short drive away was some fast food restaurants

This place is very gross and run down. We just needed a clean place to stop and sleep for the night. Our room was not what we booked. It was a run-down smoking room with only one bed. The other guests were long-term folks living at this dump. Lots of noise and creepy people. The pillows were flat and gross. The bed was uncomfortable with stained comforters and sheets. Didn't feel at all comfortable or safe. On the positive side, I don't think we got bed bugs as far as I can tell.

I have never stayed in such a run down nasty hotel. It’s by the highway, and you hear it loud and clear. Never again. Traveled to Winterset after leaving Des Moines stayed a a hotel called Cobblestone it was beautiful, very clean, free breakfast, great service, bar. For a few dollars more than the hotel in DesMoines. I will stay there from now on, even though it’s an hour outside of DesMoines.
