An amazing unique spot

The property owners were delightful. The place was enchanting, and having the horses around made me feel at home. Would highly recommend and stay here anytime I'm in town.

We arrived to the most charming, rustic, authentic horse ranch and was greeted by our host and his wife. They were both delightful to visit with and OMGosh, can she cook!! The meals are so delish with more than generous portions and seasoned to perfection!!! The ranch is away from everything...so you won't get the morning or evening traffic disturbing you. The sunsets are quiet amazing with the most beautiful colors and no light noise to ruin the view of the starry nights!! I definitely hope to go back and hear more tales from RT and to also visit the dogs, goats, chickens and horses! It was a very relaxing experience.

Great evening

This would be a must on my list for places to stay. Authentic, Genuine, Drop Dead Gorgeous Views and overall great time. The owners are warm welcoming and friendly. I would recommend to anybody looking for an experience in addition to a stay. Beats any hotel, regular home, condo, yawn. This place you won’t forget, talk about to everyone, and long to stay at again.

Tub drain was a bit worn. Otherwise great value for a family of 5. Enjoyed this much more than our hotel stays. The kids could run around (supervised) and made some friends. Great layout in the cabin stocked kitchen so you could actually cook and an apartment sized fridge. It was a home away from home

Great Escape!

We were looking for a quiet place to recharge our batteries and boy did we find the right place! Our hosts were gracious and welcoming and included us in breakfast (for a very small fee) as well as some day-trip planning. Everything felt so remote yet so cozy, close, and homey at the same time. Plenty to see and do in the surrounding area. We only had two nights so we have to go back and see more of the sorrounding valleys and mountains. Beautiful spot!

A 'Pleasant' Step Back in Time

A quaint look at a working ranch. Comfortable double bed bunkhouse accommodations. Carrie did all of our cooking in the central dining house and all meals were excellent! Everyone working there was part of one family and they are riendly and helpful. A map of the area that they made was provided and it looked very professional. It allowed us a historical view of the area and gave us something to do including fishing for the day.In short, we more than enjoyed our stay!!!

Just Great

Make sure you know what you are signing up for. This is supposed to be a fun rustic experience and that's just what it is. Its a mile or so on a dirt road any car can make it down. Its a beautiful little ranch made to look like an old western town. Its not really roughing it but its not a modern living space either. I highly recommend this place! Just give it a shot!

Visiting from Texas

When I first booked this trip, I was concern as it only had three reviews. I am very happy that I decided to go for it. My family (kids ages 5 and 9) had the most amazing time at the Inn. It was like you were stepping back in time, everything was very rustic. The kids spent hours with the horses, goats (including newborns), ponies, chickens, and baby bunnies. They also offered horsebackriding and the kids were head over hills! The people there were warm, friendly, hospitable. They treated us like family. We walked away with tons of memories and had the most amazing time. We will definitely come back again and visit the Inn.

Sandhill Crane Viewing

The Robertson family were so incredibly kind, accommodating and informed. My daughters and I had the trip of a lifetime. We stayed in the schoolhouse on their horse ranch. Their ranch is built as an old western town. We fell in love with their horses, goats, and donkeys. The Robertson family took my middle daughter and I on a wonderful horseback ride. It had been a number of years since my last ride and I was a bit rusty, they provided us with some of the best riding instruction we had ever received. Additionally, their ranch is only a few miles from the Monte Vista National Wildlife Refuge where we were able to view the Sandhill Cranes, it was an amazing experience! I cannot recommend the High Plains Drift Inn and the Robertson family highly enough, we will definitely be back!

A Fun Escape from the City!

We stayed in the cabin for one night, preparing for a ride on the Cumbres and Toltec railroad the following day. My sons loved petting the horses and jumping on the trampoline, and I loved the stargazing at night. The family that owns the ranch was very friendly and even though we declined their offer of dinner (I have a lot of food allergies), they gave us hot chocolate and tea. When they heard that we are musicians, they invited us to play on an antique piano that came to Colorado on a covered wagon, so it was really a unique and memorable experience for the kids. A couple of things to be aware of: The cabin is all solar, which is fantastic, but there is no power outlet, just a cute little USB charging station for phones. So, hopefully you're not emotionally attached to your hair dryer. Also, the final leg of our trip was on a bumpy gravel/dirt road, which was totally manageable in our Tesla, but prepare yourself for slow going and a dusty car! Thanks for your hospitality!

Beautiful, family-owned property that they clearly take great pride in caring for. Everyone we encountered there was so kind and friendly. We stayed in the School House Cabin and enjoyed the views of the horses and landscape all around. Highly recommend taking the scenic drive they have mapped out of the local area and the breakfast was delicious! Would stay here again for sure!!Be sure to double check with the map they send you, our GPS tried to send us to the wrong location but their map got us there no problem.

This cozy off grid functioning ranch was the perfect place to unplug. We got to visit with horses, goats, chickens and ducks. So animal and nature lovers this is the stay for you! Host was fantastic, super friendly, he gave us a tour upon arrival with an adventure map for us to check out the area. We grilled (bring your charcoal) out under the stars and visited with other guests. There’s no doubt we will be back!
