We have stayed at HDV several times over the years. I don't know if they are under new ownership but the two desk clerks I spoke with were of middle eastern decent. Although friendly, they were not locals. One, a young woman, looked puzzled when I told her there used to be a Ferris wheel in the Fajitaville parking lot. As the first source for knowledge and recommendations, they were inept. They advertise discounts for the Texas State Aquarium that were invalid, and the second clerk, a man, who I spoke with over the phone, gave a vague excuse. So we didn't get a discount and they're not supporting attractions that bring them business. When we checked out our room, the table lamps beside the bed had beat up shades and the light bulb on one was taped to its base and laying over from no support. I asked that it be replaced. We walked to Pier 99 and upon return, there was a young man knocking on our door. We waved from the parking lot and he said he'd fixed the lamp but thought he'd left a door key in the room. When we got up to our room, the lamp had not been repaired or replaced. We notified the desk clerk and she replaced it herself. The bed was creeky and the pillows flat. The mini frig made a loud noise like a coffee pot brewing and we finally unplugged it so we could sleep. The next morning, we absorbed the water with towels and pulled a very large chunk of ice from the freezer. When we plugged it back in, the noise was tolerable. All this indicates poor management.
