This was my first time staying at a Drury Inn, so I wasn’t aware that complimentary breakfast and drinks were offered until 7 PM in the evening.
I checked in around 7 PM on October 6th and was greeted warmly by a Black female staff member, which made for a pleasant start. However, I was surprised when I was asked to pay $50 more than the rate I had already paid through Expedia. When I asked if it was a security deposit, I was told it was for the drinks provided during the eveing and breakfast. I responded that I wouldn’t be having dinner but was told the drinks and breakfast were already included for free.
I then asked why I was being charged more than the Expedia rate if the drinks and breakfast were complimentary. Only then did the staff say there was a computer error and adjusted the price back to the original.
If this hotel chain wants to grow and improve, I believe better staff training is essential. I couldn’t help but feel that I was being treated differently—perhaps underestimated as an Asian guest who might not speak English well. If that’s the case, I imagine many other Asian travelers may have had similar experiences.
