We had a really lovely stay in one of the rooms above the pub. The location was very convenient for exploring the Cotswolds, and the pub itself had a nice atmosphere – great for a drink or dinner in the evening.
There is no car park and only on-street parking. When we arrived around dinner time there was nowhere to park, although the road cleared later and we were able to park outside overnight.
The room was comfortable overall, with a very comfy bed. However, it was disappointing that the room didn’t have the exposed beams or Cotswold stone that were advertised, which was one of the main reasons we booked. The bathroom was small but fine, although there was some discoloured mastic on the floor which was a bit off-putting. One bedside light was broken, and the other couldn’t be turned off without the main light being on. There were also several hairs left in the bathroom and shower on arrival.
Check-in felt a bit rushed and unclear. We were shown to the room but weren’t given any information about checkout time, WiFi, breakfast, or what time the doors would be locked overnight. The staff member showing us to the room seemed quite stressed. On checkout, we weren’t asked how our stay was or given an opportunity to leave feedback.
Overall, it’s a fine place to stay for a Cotswolds trip, but there’s room for improvement in customer service, cleanliness, and some maintenance. It would also have been much better if the room had matched the description when booking.
