A Disappointing Return to a Sentimental Favorite
My husband and I brought our kids to the Drake Hotel for a nostalgic trip—we had stayed here 20 years ago and wanted to share the experience with them. We booked a family suite (1 king bed and a sofa bed) for four nights at over $650 per night, expecting the same charm and quality we remembered.
Unfortunately, the room fell short of expectations. The bathroom had broken wall coverings, and the sofa bed was extremely uncomfortable—you could feel the springs through the thin cushions, making it difficult to get a good night's sleep. To add to the frustration, our room was missing basic essentials on the first night: no bedding for the sofa bed, not enough towels, and no bar soap.
That said, the staff were truly wonderful. The greeter at the front and the housekeeping staff were warm, professional, and did their best to assist us. Their kindness helped offset some of the disappointment.
For the price and reputation, we expected much more in terms of room quality and basic amenities. The Drake still has its charm, but sadly, this visit didn’t reflect the excellence we once remembered.
