Fenchihu Hotel was perfect for our overnight to Alishan. The staff was excellent and very helpful. They went above and beyond to make sure we had proper arrangements to see the Alishan Sunrise and even helped us coordinate our trip to Sun Moon Lake. We loved it!
The staff is exceptionally friendly and helpful! It's not a fancy place but more than adequate, and the tea and tea sets in the rooms were a nice treat.
Parking isn’t easy but it’s perfectly situated to explore the old street. Nice to stay here overnight to get some hours avoiding the hordes of tour bus groups that come through.
Located in the hills of Alishan, this was a great little inn found in the historical village of Fenchihu. The room that we stayed has huge with Japanese tatami beds to stay. Make sure that you have a chance to enjoy the Fenchihu bento boxed meal when you stay there. The food is great!
Love this hotel! Relatively clean, and the staff are amazing. They also gave us the number for a private driver when we needed to return from Alishan National Park.
We stayed in both the Superior Quadruple Room and Superior Double Room across 3 nights, and they were both lovely. The Double room felt like it was a bit newer/cleaner, with plush tatami, while the Quadruple room was amazing but felt a bit worn out with one of the Japanese seating pillows having a really faint smell of urine?
Their curtains are quite old with little holes throughout.
They provide tea sets in the rooms, and give 7-Eleven vouchers (located upstairs above the hotel reception) for each night you're staying. We tried their hotel dinner set one night and it was also really good.
As for noise, you can hear neighbouring rooms very easily but the main reception area with heaps of visitors can't be heard.

Nice tour
The tour was good. The room is without heater thus to cold for comfort.
The staffs are very helpful and friendly. The bento which was sold in the hotel is very yummy! But the transport is not as convenient as I expected. Anyway I recommend the hotel to anyone who wants to stay in Alishan for a good break after a tired journey.
Excellent stay. Very interesting and clean room. Great value. Free guided tours to see fireflies and town exceptional. Would be nice to have a map of where to park around town. Parking is free but there is no place to park except for parking lots that the town has set up.
Property was very cute & the bento lunch boxes were amazing. The only thing to note is that there is no elevator so if you are on the second floor, you have to carry your luggage up - staff did offer to help with this though :) Surrounding area is also beautiful, and an easy bus takes you to Alishan.

Disliked: Property conditions & facilities
The hotel building is very old and facilities are out of date. It is uncomfortable to stay in this hotel.
The bento that you can purchase was excellent. The hotel has different types of room that you can choose if available. We stayed in the Japanese room that has a soaking tub. The front desk recommended that you use it and provided two different types of bath soaks for you to use. It's interesting. You should shower before you soak, but bc the bathroom is slightly small, it was easy to get everything wet..
The hotel has no heating. Not only are the walls thin and windows old, but the front door remains open constantly. During the winter when it’s cold outside it is incredibly cold in both the rooms and the communal areas. The hotel suggested we turn the ventilation off (which we never had on) and turn on the humidifier (initially told to turn off as soon as we got in the room). Neither had any effect on the temperature in the room, to the point where we had to fill water bottles with hot water and wrap them in towels as make shift hot water bottles. Note, hot water is not available 24 hours a day so not even an option to warm up with the small bath. I would avoid staying here if possible, the bento boxes are nice but anyone can have one so no need to stay.
