Hotel is very clean but quite dated. The bedding is always immaculate & you can see they make an effort, but the furnishings are just shabby/dated. Service from reception is always brilliant though. Adrian particularly, is always friendly and nice.
The view of the river is beautiful though. Quite a few rooms have this and it is just gorgeous.
Mental notes…. Bullet points and things to point out to help draught an email to be able to get a refund.
What’s expect from a 2 star hotel:
Clean,
Sleep in a bed, a bed that does what it says on the tin
functional bathroom.
What did we get at a two star hotel?
The mattress was broken and the springs had gone.
There was no cold water in the shower /bath as the tap for the cold didn’t work and just went round and round. The hot water didn’t shut off on the tap to the bathtub so was coming out of the shower and also from the tap to the bath.
What were their suggestions?
They could not fix the taps or shower till Monday morning.
We could use another room with a single bed and shower in it.
( bearing in mind we would have to walk along the corridor/stairs or use the lift depending where the room was taking our wash kit, clothes towels etc whilst walking with a stick or in Debbie’s case her walker. Even suggesting that we could use the single bed until they could find us another room.
Then realising that we had booked for 4 nights.
What would you expect from this hotel to do?
We booked 4 nights only staying one. Would we expect a full refund? Or just the 3 nights that were left? Considering that we didn’t know the state of it until we were going to bed, after being out for the evening. Not using the bathroom shower until the morning.
Would not recommend it. We were trying to help independent small hotels rather than go to chain.
We like help to get refund please.
The room handed over was far from the one in the picture. 401 is an out dated room with an over used mattress and to top it off no water pressure in the bathroom shower.
After night one and a reassurance that maintenance had fixed the issue the compromise suggested was to use room 403s shower as it had a small caravan type shower head which needed very little pressure and sleep in 401's.
A shocking experience which I hope never happens again
Just what needed for a week working in the area, nice room great staff , top man Adrian great guy

Honest review
I had a mixed experience at this hotel. The person who welcomed me on Wednesday was amazing, as were several other staff members I interacted with during my stay. Unfortunately, my experience on Sunday night was very different. The staff I dealt with that evening — including one man and a woman — were extremely rude. The looks and attitude I received made me feel like I wasn’t being treated as a human being, as if I was being looked down on. This contrast in service was disappointing given how welcoming the earlier staff had been.
Upon check in room was extremely untidy. There was signs of drug paraphernalia and beer bottle lids in the drawers where the refreshment area is. Empty food packaging and food in the bedside table. The bath was begrimed and the cups for tea and coffee also dirty. The bath however large was broken and the advertised jets don’t work, half a used toilet roll from previous guests on the holder and general cleanliness feeling was far from apparent.
This was booked for an anniversary present for my partner. Needless to say it severely affected our stay.
Only one member of staff manning the front desk and all enquiries and other problems. No managers accessible.
I wanted to refund my booking but was unable at such short notice.
Extremely upset and disappointed with the overall experience and fully expect some form of compensation or refund at the very least.
All issues where made apparent ten mins after checking in and the lad on reception tried he’s best to make amends for the poor experience but was also alone so he’s efforts although appreciated where below par also. Basically implying if I stay the night I shouldn’t expect a refund or compensating because it appears happy with my room which I made it abundantly clear I wasn’t. And with no other rooms available and no funds to book elsewhere we were forced to stay as opposed to choosing too.
Breakfast advertised with the room.. this is a basic cereal option. Hot breakfast is an extra charge which I feel is misleading
Staff helpful, nice view, curtains need to be washed ASAP as large area covered in chocolate, the edge of the shelf under the window needs hot water plus washing-up liquid to remove the dirt (dusting won't shift it). No grab rails in the shower and very hot water in the washbasin.
I rang yesterday to tell the hotel I was called away with my job at short notice I haven’t got a nine to five job and the hotel charged me but they had time t let it back out not only that they took extra money out of my account without my knowledge I would never promote this hotel any thing can happen at short notice
Hotel not understanding in this matter
Would never book this one again
The lady was very nice on the phone but the two men need to go on a customer service course how to talk to people

Not bad but wouldnt be recommending it to friends
Receptionist was wonderful really helpful and friendly.
Overall room was ok spacious with a nice view, shame there was nonair conditioning.
The evening menu was ok, had the gammon which was very good.
However breakfast really let this place down the morning staff were all over the place, people sat waiting, Inhad to go into the kitchen tinget anyones attention tonorder breakfast. When it turned up I wish I hadn't the hash browns and black pudding where deep fried to within an inch of their life. Tasted awful i barely ate anything.
