Summary:
A one-of-a-kind English Basement suite tucked into The Charlestonian, an 1850s antebellum mansion in the heart of Cannonborough. Private outdoor patio, French Baroque tin ceilings, and a bathroom finished in 1854 Vermont roofing slate make this the most architecturally distinctive studio in downtown Charleston. One queen bed, full kitchenette, high-speed WiFi, premium linens, and complimentary parking.
The Space:
The Patio Suite sits inside The Charlestonian, a fully restored antebellum mansion built in the 1850s in Cannonborough, one of downtown Charleston's most celebrated and walkable neighborhoods. It is the most intimate suite in the building, and the most architecturally interesting.
The walls are paneled in beautifully restored cypress, warm, textured, and unlike anything you'll find in a standard Charleston rental. The ceiling is finished in French Baroque-inspired tin paneling, original to the era of the home. The floors are restored hardwood throughout. Every surface in this room was preserved, not approximated.
The bathroom continues that commitment: tiled in reclaimed 1854 Vermont roofing slate, fitted with a polished nickel British high-tank water closet, and finished with quality bath products and plush towels.
The queen bed is dressed in premium linens with room-darkening shades and everything needed for a proper night's rest. The custom kitchenette features high-end finishes and is stocked for light cooking. Premium entertainment with Netflix, Amazon Prime, and Youtube TV with high-speed WiFi.
The suite's defining feature is its private outdoor patio, a ground-level outdoor space exclusive to this suite, with dedicated seating and access to the shared Green Egg charcoal grill with complimentary charcoal. In Charleston's climate, this patio is usable ten months of the year, and it's the reason this suite books differently from any other room in the building.
Access to the suite is via the rear spiral staircase, a beautiful architectural detail, please note this is the only access point and is not suitable for guests with significant mobility limitations.
Complimentary parking for one vehicle on premises.
Operating Permit: OP2026-07476
Guest Access:
Access to this exclusive space is from the back porch down the spiral stairs.
You have access to the large front porch with dedicated seating for only you, rear porch, and patio with big Green Egg charcoal grill, charcoal being complimentary of course. As well as one car private, complimentary parking.
The unit above this suite can accommodate additional guests if you're traveling with a larger party, reach out and we can coordinate.
The Neighborhood:
Visitors can enjoy convenient dining options directly next door at Southbound and Ladles Soup across from the apartment. The home is set in Cannonborough, an inviting downtown area blending historic and residential homes. It’s steps away from the College of Charleston, as well as Charleston's finest and shopping.
Getting Around:
We offer free parking on-site. We are only 3 blocks from Upper King Street, so most guests prefer to walk and explore the city. The beach is 15 minutes away by car. There is also a free shuttle offered by the city that runs along King Street (3 blocks away) to popular stops. Bike rentals are available nearby or you might enjoy trying a pedicab taxi.
Other Things to Note:
Please note:
* Off-street parking for one car is provided free of charge. Any additional parking is $20 a day per car.
* This efficiency requires guests to access from the spiral staircase pictured here. This is the only access to the rental.
* This space is a patio apartment located in a half-basement with tons of light.
*There is an additional unit above this rental in the same home. If you happen to be traveling with a larger party, we'd be happy to coordinate a rental to accommodate your friends or family.
*The bathroom of this space adjoins Ladles Soups' kitchen. Occasionally a sound or two may be heard emanating from the kitchen; however, this space is completely cordoned off and separated from this very tasty soup, salad, and sandwich shop.
* All Charleston homes in the historic footprint of the city - which this rental falls into - must abide by strict renovation mandates. As such all of our rentals must feature single pane glass to reflect the look and feel of the original home dating back to the 1800s. As such, noise does travel and we ask that all guests who rent from us here and at our properties adjacent please be respectful of neighbors at all times and especially watch noise levels when coming and going after 10p.m. for the enjoyment of all guests.
* Loud noise and partying will not be tolerated.
Interaction with Guests:
We are available for questions and we're glad to assist in any way we can.
