There’s also a castle to expore! This lovely town on the estuary still has a busy and bustling harbour where you can watch the fishing boats return with their catch. A must for children and adults alike is a visit to the Dark Sky Planetarium, a state-of-the-art interactive science and space themed experience for everyone, or you just may prefer the Dark Art Gin Distillery next door! Kirkcudbright and other places can be reached by bus from Ringford.
Another lovely little town is Castle Douglas, known as ‘The Food Town’, a delightful, small market town only a short drive away with an array of independent shops selling local produce and quality gifts. There is a number of cafés, pubs and restaurants to enjoy a meal in, as well as excellent butchers and food shops for you to sample the local produce.
