About this property
Entire place
You'll have the entire home to yourself and will only share it with other guests in your party.
Casa don Eliseo
You will stay in a small village at a manor house built in 1901 carefully restored preserving its authenticity. In the Granada geopark and surrounded by 4 natural parks, it is ideally placed to explore this rough but breathtaking region. As biologists, we deeply care about our environmental impact and propose an ecoturism stay. We created a comfortable & eco-concious space, limiting energy consumption, using local & organic food for meals and offering experiences that respect the environment.
You will be in a 8 rooms bed and breakfast, where you might share premises with other guests. The dining rooms and both living rooms are shared areas. You will also have the possibility to enjoy a guided tour of the house museum (Don Eliseo's museum, a surgeon born in 1888 in this house)
Our ecotourism house is a beautifully restored historic building that has been carefully preserved while respecting its rich history. Not only have we taken great care in rehabilitating the house, but we have also made sure to prioritize the environment in every aspect of its operation.
During the restoration process, we have employed sustainable construction practices and used eco-friendly materials. We believe in preserving the past while also considering the future, and as a result, the house uses energy-efficient appliances and is equipped with solar panels for electricity generation, while we use a central heating system using local olive pits.
Our commitment to the environment extends beyond the house itself. In our kitchen, we source local and organic ingredients whenever possible, supporting local farmers and reducing our carbon footprint. We promote waste reduction and recycling, and we encourage guests to be mindful of their usage of resources during their stay.
The use of solar panels for heating and hot water helps us minimize our reliance on traditional energy sources. We have also invested in insulation and energy-efficient windows to reduce heat loss during the colder months.
Additionally, we have taken care to select furnishings and materials that are respectful to the environment. We used only second hand and antique furniture and objects trying to create a space that is both comfortable and eco-conscious.
Located in an exceptional natural setting, we are fortunate to be situated in a geopark. This designation recognizes our region as an area of outstanding geological significance and natural beauty. We invite our guests to explore the unique landscapes, hiking trails, and natural wonders that surround us, while reminding them to be mindful of their impact on the environment.
By staying at our ecotourism house, guests not only experience the charm of a beautifully restored historic building but also have the opportunity to contribute to sustainable tourism practices. We believe that through careful preservation, a focus on the environment, and a deep respect for nature, we can offer guests a truly exceptional and eco-friendly experience.
Both biologists, we live on the premises and are available for questions and tips about the surrounding nature, archaeological sites and places to visit.
Castillejar is a small town situated in the heart of the Granada Geopark surrounded by 4 natural parks and several arqueological sites. The village is a typical trogloditic place, most of the inhabitant lives in caves houses. Here you will find one of the most beautiful badlands of the region. The badlands are a type of landscape with arid characteristics, extensively eroded by water and wind. Canyons, gullies, ravines, canals, fairy chimneys and other geological forms of the style are common in the badlands. The peculiar vegetation is formed of semi-desertic steppes surrounded by mountains with pine forests. Here you will have plenty of opportunities to discover nature, archeology and the local gastronomy. Discover our lamb AOC, locally produced goat cheese and many ecological almond and pistachios.
To arrive in the town of Castilléjar and visit surroundings; it would be easier to have a car. There is no bus service and few taxis service. The closest airport is GRANADA. Further close airports are Almeria, Malaga and Alicante (1h30, 3h, 3h drive). From Malaga airport, a bus lane (ALSA company) do the travel to Granada or less frequently to the nearest town of BAZA (30km of Castilléjar). We recommand you to rent a car at the airport or in Granada. If you need help on how to reach us do not hesitate to ask us.
