Was told restaurant closed at 3. Arrived at 2, was told it was closed all week. No other place to eat. Went to "grocery" across street, shelves were almost bare. Ended up eating trail mix and candy, what Ihad in my car, for dinner. TV did not work -- only about 9 channels, snowy and terrible reception, unwatchable. Front desk clerk tried to fix it but couldn't, no maintenance person working. Found out the next morning, with wet hair, hair dryer also did not work. Hotel looks old and dated outside, had to walk up stairs and they were uneven, almost tripped twice. Room was large, very roomy, clean. Very quiet, but there were only a handful of guests since Carlsbad Caverns was closed due to the shutdown -- certainly not their fault, but disappointing, as it was my only reason for staying there. Front desk staff was very nice, but unable to do anything to resolve the problems.

This is a fairly dated motel but it’s clean and what you’d expect for a 2 star location. Beds were comfortable, we were able to bring our dog, and parking with a trailer was a breeze. Breakfast was cold cereal so that was a little lacking but at least something. We were there in the off season but the pools and slides looked fun.

Went during government shutdown and Caverns were closed. Staff were helpful in cancelling reservation for second night since Caverns were closed. We stayed the first night of the reservation, considering a visit to Roswell the next day. Helpful with restaurant referrals in nearby Carlsbad. Property was ok, budget-type furnishings for a short-time stay. Stayed in October, so summer season was over.
