This hotel is a work in progress but it is a great experience to stay in a 19th century mansion. I hope that the current owners can continue their restoration and preserve this tremendous heritage. But please put better directions on the hotel booking site as the given post code is miles away.

The hotel is unlike anywhere I've ever stayed. It's a HUGE mansion that looks stunning when pulling up the drive, but then you notice some of the windows boarded up. However, for those want to stay somewhere VERY unusual and is up for a little adventure, then this Glynllifon is one of the most interesting and quirky places to stay. It's far from a 4-star hotel - but with significant investment, it could easily become one of the best hotels in the UK and therefore command significantly higher fees from guests. However, my stay was fun and enjoyable despite the lack of TV and intermittent WiFi.

A remarkable building, but still very much a work in progress Plas Glynllifon is an extraordinary place to stay. The building is genuinely impressive, full of history and character, and staying there feels very different from a conventional hotel. The welcome was friendly, the room was comfortable and breakfast was good. The setting is also excellent for exploring this part of North Wales. It is important to be realistic, though: this is still very much a hotel in development. Some of the facilities and infrastructure are not yet at the standard you would expect from a fully established hotel. During my stay the Wi-Fi was unreliable, there were no TVs in the rooms, and some parts of the property were clearly still being brought back into use. None of that spoiled my stay, because I knew I was staying somewhere that is being restored and developed rather than at a finished luxury hotel. In some ways it was interesting to see the building at this stage. There is no restaurant or bar at present, although there are places nearby. I particularly enjoyed Ty’n Llan, which is roughly a 20-minute walk away and was excellent for an evening meal. The real attraction here is the building itself and its potential. If the owners continue improving the practical side of the hotel while preserving its character, Plas Glynllifon could become somewhere genuinely special. I would stay again, but I would recommend arriving with the expectation that you are visiting a fascinating historic
