Stunning palace with terrace in Cádiz center. Calderon de la Barca
In the heart of Cádiz’s historic center stands this 18th-century mansion, which has preserved its original structure and proportions intact. A place of strong historical significance, it evokes the aristocratic splendor of the city and recalls Cádiz during the era of the Indies trade and the Enlightenment.
All guests enjoy access to a spacious landscaped terrace of nearly 100 m², featuring an outdoor dining area, lounge spaces, and a reading corner.
The first living space, located on the ground floor, opens onto a bright interior courtyard. The courtyard features a black marble sculpture inspired by the work of British sculptor Barbara Hepworth, a key figure in 1950s abstract art. The living-dining room includes a work area, Smart TV, a sofa designed by Vincent Van Duysen, and original Mies van der Rohe armchairs created in 1930 for the Villa Tugendhat in what is now the Czech Republic. The open-plan kitchen is fully equipped with high-end appliances and is distinguished by a hand-carved marble front. It features brushed gold bronze fixtures inspired by hammam design, chiselled in Istanbul and reminiscent of the city’s traditional fountains. The bedroom offers a king-size bed (180 × 200 cm), an en-suite bathroom, and two French doors opening onto the courtyard. The space is completed by a curated selection of historic pieces, including an 18th-century tapestry from the Aubusson workshops in France.
The first floor offers a stately space with four balconies overlooking the street and four-meter-high ceilings that enhance its spaciousness and light. The living-dining area includes a 19th-century Chinese bed from a Vietnamese palace, a contemporary designer sofa, 18th-century French armchairs, and a television. The open kitchen features a hand-carved marble sink matching the one on the ground floor and is equipped with state-of-the-art appliances. The bedroom includes a 190 × 200 cm Mexican canopy bed, a built-in wardrobe, and a desk area. The bathroom, designed as an open-concept space, is clad in marble and includes an integrated shower.
The second floor houses the most exclusive suite of the residence, opening onto four exterior balconies that provide light and openness. The bedroom features a king-size bed (180 × 200 cm). The living room, centered around a fireplace clad in 18th-century Delft tiles from the Netherlands, integrates a study area and TV space. This floor also includes a large bathroom with shower and bathtub, finished in Colombian blue marble and complemented by decorative details in white Indian marble. The open kitchen is distinguished by its countertop in Colombian orange marble, known as “Mandarino,” which gives the space a unique character.
The top floor hosts a bright suite, defined by a floor-to-ceiling window opening directly onto a landscaped terrace. Outside, the terrace features a white-grey marble bathtub from Vietnam and a carved wooden window piece originating from a coffee hacienda in Colombia’s Valle del Cauca. The space is completed with a table base made from Mexican tree root and armchairs by British designer Vincent Sheppard. Inside, there is a bedroom with a 160 × 200 cm bed, a television, and a spacious bathroom with a large shower. It also includes a 19th-century German baroque-style wardrobe (Stollenschrank) in oak, along with a four-tone green Vietnamese silk velvet curtain.
Guests are welcome to use the terrace as a designated smoking area. However, the interior of the property is a smoke-free space.
The palatial house is located just a few metres from one of Cádiz’s main gastronomic hubs, as well as its principal museum, a fifteen-minute walk from La Caleta Beach, and five minutes from the new leisure and dining complex “Calachica” in Punta de San Felipe.
