Overall it was a great stay. I either forgot or overlooked the “fine print” (in Portuguese on the VRBO site under additional info) about an additional deposit that was required within a few days of the check in (obligatory maid, light and water usage, etc). This had to be done through Pix (need a bank account in Brazil, which I do not have) or account transfer (a process that, for me, requires going to my local bank in the US but I was already in Brazil). Luckily I am Brazilian, I speak Portuguese, and I have family who lend me the money by sending it to the host via Pix. I did have to go to a local ATM and get cash with all fees for cash advancement, etc, to be able to re-pay this loan. The host had very good communication but all outside of the VRBO app (through WhatsApp). Even though the communication was great, with all of the above, I was concerned about not having all conversations recorded through the VRBO app. Having said that, it all worked well and we did receive a refund for what was not used from the R$2,000 deposit. This was done via pix back to my family member and I left that amount with them, since it was going to be difficult to have money transferred back to me in the US. The location is superb and it was worth it. I’ve been to that condo many times but it was the first time in this house. I would recommend it but, if you are not Brazilian, be aware of the above additional fees and how to transfer funds outside of the VRBO app.
