Lovely staff, great breakfast, lovely old manor house and grounds, clean, big rooms, but they desperately need some TLC and a facelift!!
Very pleasant overnight stay. The staff were very attentive and friendly especially the staff at the restaurant. Very good breakfast with several options and choice.

Breakfast menu was good, on Monday it was cooked to order - the food that arrived was good, but had been cooked for a while!
Bar was card only, as they had 'run out of change' from an event held on Saturday.
Then on Monday to Wednesday evening it was still card only. Staffing of the bar was a bit sporadic. often no one around. Bedroom and bathroom def looking tired and in need of a refresh.
Overall a pleasant stay but can't say I'll be rushing back.

We were upgraded to a superior room which spacious and well appointed. Only slight negatives were the dust at the bottom of bathroom door frame and the hot water from the tap was too hot
Staff were very friendly and chatty

Staff were very friendly and helpful. Lovely place but in need of an uplift but would definitely stay there again
Worst one I’ve stopped in for a while , they then proceeded to ask me to show evidence that I had booked the room to include breakfast in front of other guests in the morning !! ( which I did) trying to make out to be liar.
I was really disappointed with this hotel. I stay in hotels in this area for work reasons and I thought I’d try the Mercure for once, as hotel looked nice online. However on entry the reception was small and inpractical - my room was on top floor which had me going up and down tiny corridors with light, with lots of heavy fire doors with a lack of signage as to where room numbers are. The room itself was large but dated. The bathroom smelt abit but passable.
The TV didn’t work.
The real downside for me was the noise heard when trying to sleep. Firstly it seemed I was next to a boiler room as loud mechanical noises throughout night- which woke me up several times. Also above me or around me I could hear chairs scraped on floors and what heard like furniture being moved - this was really frustrating and meant I lacked a good nights sleep. No phone in room so couldn’t call reception.
I was expecting the view from room to be green countryside as seen online but all I could see was ugly roof with tarpaulin all over it and loose tiles on roof. It looked neglected. There is no gym.
I don’t know how this hotel is 4 stars. The other local hotels I usually stay at are 2/3 stars and so much better.
It’s a shame but I will not be choosing to stay at this hotel again. Expensive for what you get.

Lovely, friendly, and efficient staff! We were greeted by friendly staff & check in was very straight forward.
Dinner was served by lovely staff and the food selection was very good.
Breakfast was delicious, with plenty of variety for all tastes.
Our room was clean and comfortable, and excellent value.
Room was lovely and large, bed and pillows were excellent. Staff were lovely, venue was very pretty but smelt of damp which was off putting. Evening meals were all fantastic but breakfast wasnt great
This was a budget priced stay of one night and this was reflected in the overall quality. The room was clean and tidy although a little worse for wear. There were scratches on the wall nearest one of the beds, retouched paintwork on the bathroom door, a dirty glass in the bathroom. The wifi wasn't readily accessible, there was limited mobile network coverage and no telephone in the room. There was a note welcoming us from the manager which was a nice touch. The hotel itself was really damp with a leaking roof just on entering the reception area. (However it was pouring down that night). The staff were pleasant and efficient. The main concern for me was that I hadnt realised it was a pet friendly hotel, which wouldn't have been a problem normally (I'm a pet owner myself) but two doors down on our corridor there was a group of dogs staying and they barked all night. The hotel was huge and it would have been great to be in a room removed from the noise.
Bar staff great, drinks not, no.ipa, not many whiskies
