Just had a great stay at Holiday Inn Express, twin room for my sister and I, lovely comfy beds, spotlessly clean, great roomy shower, nice touch with the Dove Shampoo and Body Wash and service was super. Asked at reception if we wanted room on higher or lower floor which I thought was really nice, nice comfortable bar/reception area to come back to after great day of walking around Birmingham - lovely city. All staff greeted us with lovely smiles, would definitely stay here again.

Comfy rooms everything needed was covered If forget basics could ask at reception for free No noise nearby when we stayed - was easy walking distance from new st station Friendly helpful staff Able to drop off bags before check in and leave at check out so could do activities before train home

The room was spacious and clean. The breakfast was varied. The only thing that let it down was when we arrived and got through check in we got in the lift the door closed we pressed the level we needed and the lift did not move we were stuck in a closed lift we pressed the alarm no one came we could just see the reception thru a small gap in the door we pressed the alarm again still no one came or spoke to us. In panick we forced the door open which took some doing and went straight to reception to notify them about the faulty lift they almost laughed and said didnt you scan your card on the black box i explained i hadnt stayed with them before she just said well you need to scan your card on the box inside the lift then press the floor number. I felt like we were stupid rather than someone who hadnt been given the right information. I would appreciate it if the reception staff were to ask anyone who checks in if they had been before and if not explain the system with the lift. This was a huge issue for us as i was bringing my partner who is physically impaired and mentally impaired the whole lift issue caused her to be scared and she was reluctant to get in another lift after this problem.

Issues at check-in

Issues at check-in when they discovered that they had checked someone in with the same name as me earlier in the day but only had one reservation in my name and had therefore given away my room. They hadn't asked for any kind of evidence of the booking confirmation or email with which the reservation was made which would have avoided the issue - they just accepted the name as the booking confirmation. Fortunately they still had a room available so we weren't turned away.
