      Great location but I guess you get what you pay for with regards to the service. I was out of my room until about 2pm after the first night we stayed & came back to an unclean room. Of course she wanted to clean shortly after I returned to get ready for a 4:00 event departure. When I asked for the cleaning lady to come back at 4 she refused. The 1st iron we had to walk down to reception to get was broke and dripped all over our clothes, the iron board was a joke & the A/C would not turn on.

      Great location and service. Views are terrific and staff was very pleasant and helpful. The restaurant in the hotel is high quality and a nice break if you are looking for convenience and value. The rooms are very clean and comfortable. We plan to stay here again if we are fortunate enough to get back to this area.

      Great hotel in San Giovanni, near Bellagio

      Locanda della Maria is a great hotel on Lake Como. It is very near the San Giovanni ferry stop, that runs about 4 times per day. If coming from Varenna, save yourself a 10 euro cab ride to the hotel and take the ferry to San Giovanni. The room was very spacious and clean, the bathroom was good size and Bruno is a very nice host. Breakfast was excellent, and the air conditioning and wifi worked great. It took about 20 minutes to walk to Bellagio from the hotel, and I would not recommend doing it with bags. The road is pretty narrow in places and the lake is blocked for most of the walk. Definitely do-able though. There is only 1 restaurant in San Giovanni and it was fully booked the night we arrived, so definitely plan to eat in Bellagio. This was a really nice stay on Lake Como.
