If the Ice Caves are opened by the National Park System in Bayfield, we may open. You must have an all wheel drive vehicle in winter for the steep driveway at The Pilot House!
The Pilot House "Admirals Quarters" on first level downtown Bayfield. Lake Views! Located at the corner of 1st Street and Washington Avenue. Just steps from the Madeline Island Ferry, beaches, and kayak rentals, with coffee shops, restaurants, boutiques, galleries, museums, marinas, and the library all within a short walk. The Iron Bridge Trail is just up the hill—no car needed.

Private Bath including jetted tub and separate shower, Roku 43" TV, WIFI, in room coffee, mini-refrigerator, King Bed & Queen Sofa-Sleeper, Sleeps 4 in 1 large bedroom, walk-in closet, table with 2 chairs, dresser, night stands, private door to outside East Lake View Deck. We had a fantastic stay at the Pilot House. Wonderful views of Lake Superior, within walking distance of the lake and downtown and many restaurants. The hosts were wonderful, friendly, welcoming, and shared great tips about the area. The common area was superb. We had the fortunate happenstance of being the only ones renting during our stay b/c it was after the summer season and during the week. We shared the Admirals Quarters between three of us and there was plenty of room.Check-in was very easy and communication during the reservation process was prompt and clear. I would HIGHLY recommend this stay and we look forward to another stay at some time in the future.

Beautiful harbor view and Jack the host was very pleasant and helpful. I was in the Admirals Suite which was very spacious with a mini-fridge, AC, fan, and comfortable bed, along with additional amenities. Very short walk to downtown Bayfield and the ferry to Madelyn Island. Had a great stay! It wasn't an issue for me, but for those who are sensitive to morning light there is a skylight that does not have a shade.

Perfect location

Pilot House was walking distance from most everything we did while in Bayfield. The B & B was very clean and had everything we needed. Jack is quite the character, we loved his sense of humor. Very pleasant experience!!

We enjoyed our stay in the Admiral’s Quarters—very spacious bedroom and bathroom. We enjoyed the private balcony, as well as the common spaces, with their lovely view of the water. Our time was relaxing! Bayfield visitors need to be prepared for walking steep hills in town and on the driveway!

Admirals Quarters was worth the price. The suite was on the main floor - no stairs to negotiate and adjacent to deck with view of bay and town. Restaurants, shops, and attractions were an easy walk from the house - great location. So might mention the view comes at a price - a steep driveway - but we just looked at the climb as a fitness bonus.

My wife and I had a nice three-night stay at Pilot House. The location in Bayfield is fantastic with close walking access to the main commercial area and the bayfront. Booking was easy, communication with owners was quick and easy, and access to the building was simple. Our room, "Admiral's Quarters,' was clean, comfortable and good-sized, with nice views of the lake. The bed was very comfortable. The bathroom is pleasantly large and bright, with a good shower and good sized walk-in closet. The public area of the B&B is beautiful, incorporating two sitting areas, a fireplace and the dining/kitchen area, also with beautiful views of Lake Superior and Madeline Island. We would certainly recommend, though just a few things prevent a five-star review. (1) The "Admiral's Quarters" room is a bit dated and could use a modernizing and brightening spruce-up. Other rooms in Pilot House may be worth checking out. (2) The breakfast part of B&B was a bit underwhelming, consisting of self-serve-from-the-fridge store-purchased muffins, yogurts and juices. Coffee is made in your room. It served us fine, but be aware if you are used to more elaborate B&B breakfast spreads; (3) there is a small outdoor deck with a lovely view that also could use some sprucing up to make more inviting. All-in-all, a very pleasant stay in a beautiful home at a great location that we would recommend.
