Beautiful View, But Bring a Blanket (and Maybe a Toolkit)
I really wanted to love our stay in Hanging Horn Lakeside Resort, and in some ways, I did, but not without a few surprises. The building has character, maybe a little too much. The floors are uneven enough that you start wondering if the whole place is slowly leaning toward the lake.
Now, about the heat. The main htrs in our unit were disconnected, which would have been fine if anyone had mentioned the secret space heater hidden away like a treasure in a drawer. We discovered it only after freezing for hours. Unfortunately, the wiring couldn’t handle the heater, so we woke up at 1 am in an icebox of a room. The next morning, the owner’s sister explained that the wiring trips the breaker if you use it too long and kindly suggested we should have called her at 1 am for help.
To be fair, the room was clean, the bed and blankets soft. Breakfast in the morning was decent nothing fancy but got the job done. They even swapped out our towels, which was thoughtful.
The real star of this place is the view. It is absolutely breathtaking, with a perfect view of the lake right from the room. We came for the trails and could ride our quads from the property, which was very convenient. I can only imagine how beautiful it would be in the fall.
Overall, the property has great potential. It just needs some updates to match the beauty outside. Bring a blanket, a sense of humor, and you will still find plenty to enjoy here.
