Could do better

This is a really good looking hotel in a great location but it all felt tired. Stair carpets need replacing, bedroom windows didn’t open, poor shower, drainage needed sorting. On the plus side, the bedroom was a good size, dinner and breakfast were good, plenty of parking and a characterful building. Please don’t let it run down, invest in more maintenance.

Promising then so disappointing

Very disappointing, booked a Classic room for a one night stay. The good things: staff friendly and polite, breakfast very good, plenty of choice from fresh fruit to full cooked. Now the bad: on check in we were offered an upgrade (charged) advising that as we had booked a classic room these had not been refurbished yet (not mentioned when booking). We declined as seasoned travellers we appreciate things do need updating but this was only a one night stay. However these room are so bad they really should not be booking them out until they have been done. The bedroom itself wasnt too bad, was a bit battered decor wise but clean, but the bathroom was appaling, broken tiles, bath panel didn’t fit, sealant pealing away and mouldy grout (not sure the cleaner could have dont anything about it). The gaffa tape on the stairs carpet is probably a trip hazzard. After a full day travelling from France we were just too tired to do anything.

Tight parking great location

Nice room in old part of building but pillows way too hard and water pressure very poor. Parking is tight to access, I scraped wing mirror on way out. Great location for the town and good breakfast, breakfast staff were lovely even though very busy.

Rooms not fit for purpose for paying guests

My husband and I have stayed at this hotel a month ago along with my sister and her husband and mother. My husband and I and my mother had refurbished rooms however my sister and husband had a room waiting to be refurbished. The standard and cleanliness between the refurbished and non refurbished was great. Having this knowledge I requested refurbished rooms for all 3 parties. On arrival I was very disappointed that all 3 rooms were not refurbished and in disrepair. Our bedroom window could not be closed, the carpet was stained and old. The springs were felt through the mattress. There were brown stains at the base of the toilet. There was no enamel left on the bath which had a brown stain at the plug end. The grouting was old and stained. No net at the window. Paintwork all chipped on the radiator and window sill. Old furniture. Amongst other things that need serious addressing. These rooms are not fit for purpose for paying guests.

Nice looking facade but I can’t give any applaud to the limited room space in the top floor of hotel, mould in bathroom , inadequate shower pressure ( a trickle at best ) did pre check in passing my wife requires gluten free breakfast but told due to the amount of guests the previous day they had v limited food. Minimal staff on Sunday to support breakfast demand , poor lady was very apologetic and did her best, but needs more staff to support the breakfast provision. When requested the manager contact details was only provided front of house. Not impressed for the monies paid

Loved the characterful building, the foyer seating was comfortable, free parking a bonus and location near the town centre excellent. Staff were welcoming and helpful. My room in the old part of the hotel was very clean, quiet and comfortable, although I would have appreciated a box of tissues. Signage from the car park could be improved and the cooked breakfast was already tired by 8.15am. Freshly prepared please!

Great staff, great food hugely let down by room

This hotel will soon,I hope be beautiful again . I did give the hotel an opportunity to address my concerns, below not only immediately on my visit but also on return . I did get a response after chasing . The bar and waiting staff were professional, helpful polite and excellent . The food was well cooked and very good value . Breakfast was on the whole very good .The common areas are nicely refurbished and the old building is lovely.The gardens are lovely to enjoy . Parking was free. Be aware rooms in the 1970 block may be shabby .Sadly Our room (85) ,was dirty with shredded net curtains, filthy toilet, black mastic & stained carpets . The stair carpet had gaffa tape holding it together and one room (82)looked like the door had been kicked in . The second couple on my booking who arrived first were given a suite. Bizarrely at Same cost, same booking,( room 79 ), so do check your room number ! 79 was a little tired but clean pleasant and huge ! We immediately told reception our room was unfit for purpose we were given the next door room which was marginally cleaner. The desk clerk denied the other party on my booking had a suite ,a strange response! The hotel kindly responded to my written concerns apologised & offered room upgrade and afternoon tea on my next visit they have said the rooms are to be upgraded. I would check where your room will be when booking . Sadly I will not be visiting again and will be forever puzzled by why a suite and a old shabby room are equal

Beautiful stay

Our room was beautiful, spacious and very clean. We had a separate 'T.V' room with a sofa bed for extra guests so learnt of room for 4 adults. If I had to be picky there was only one packet if normal Nescafé coffee. For whatever reason the restaurant closed at 7 pm despite the web site saying 9 pm. Breakfast was really nice - sausages were fabulous.
