Room was good, we had a space with an adjacent sitting area. But the bedroom was quite small. And the hotel bar/lounge area was just ok. This is a four star hotel. (not a five star).

International travellers, you should be aware that this hotel is five star by New Zealand standards, which is a much lower bar than many other places. The room had a musty/moldy smell, mediocre amenities (e.g. hairdryer and toiletries) miserly coffee pods and a poor minibar. It was nicely decorated but missing things you’d expect from a modern hotel like adequate charging/power points. Service was poor. I had booked the sauna prior to arriving. There was no guest compendium in the room so I called reception to ask what the go was and the person I spoke to appeared personally affronted I had even asked. He turned up at the door to say he was taking me there half an hour later, then did this with all the warmth of a gaoler taking a prisoner to a cell. The sauna itself was very tired. When I returned to the room at night a fuse had blown and the living area and bathroom lights in the suite were not functional. As I checked out later in the morning, I told reception (the same staff member) the issues I’d had with the smell in the room and non-functional lights. He said blankly “I’ll tell them.” No apology or offer to compensate. I am not thrilled about paying NZD 650 per night to brush my teeth by phone torch light but even less thrilled about how I was treated like an ingrate for even mentioning it. There are numerous other and better hotels in the same vicinity (Movenpick, DeBrett, M Social) and I would not stay here again nor recommend it to others.

Staff were great. Physical environment lovely. Unfortunately the room had a very musty smell - either like flooded carpet or cigarette smoke that had been attempted to neutralise, but just made the room smell weird and unpleasant. Even when we woke up, we were still attuned to the bad smell. Such a shame as the location is great and the rest of the experience very good.

Very noisy room , ask for a quiet room the rooms on Queen St are VERY nosiy would not recommend if these are all they have. A shame as the Hotel is in a great area for the City and things to do. Not sure I would stay again.

I’ve wanted to try this hotel for a long time and booked over a year ago for a special occasion. The staff are lovely and helpful. The bed was very comfy. Hotel in great location. That was where the good stuff ended. The room smelled very musty/moldy. Had to have the balcony door open for extended periods of time and room smelled if left shut up. The hot water ran out during my shower the first morning. The shelf in the shower was not secured properly and couldn’t be used to place shampoo etc on. The hot tub had broken and was under repair, which we weren’t told until we tried to use it. If you are coming by car, don’t. It’s a nightmare. I got abused by the courier driver while trying to drop off luggage and get car put into valet. My husband had to go around the block multiple times. The room seemed to be missing some of the elements you would expect of a 5 star hotel. On another note- we were on the 8th floor. The lift only goes to 7th. We are fit, so didn’t worry us. Not many amenities for a 5 star. Not worth the price tag.
