Great hotel, the staff was helpful and many spoke English. The buffet type breakfast had a great selection of different foods - soups, different types of salads, fruits, etc. We stayed in a Japanese style room with futons, which were comfortable. The onsen was open most of the day.

The location was lovely and the onsen and outdoor otaru baths were totally worth the trip! The buffet breakfast had a ton of options and was tasty. Our family room was a very tight squeeze for 4 people, but otherwise fine. We had limited interactions with the staff, but they were helpful and accommodating when we needed anything!

We really wanted to like the place but as per the reviews, it is very tired and even the food seems to be cooked with sadness. The staff were lovely but overall the atmosphere was very tired. Our Japanese style family room was the highlight, an absolute gem, which would have been amazing in its heyday. Ample space, lots of fun for the kids with the beautiful balcony, sliding doors, many rooms, wonderful river view! We wanted to spend more time in our room! However, the onsen, as per other reviews was full of mould and the floors very slippery and quite dangerous. We loved the outdoor family onsen though! We hope that an investor can invest some money into restoring this place back to its former glory!

Really good place for a good typical Japanese stay with the outstanding mixed outside onsen bath, the traditional rooms, and the delicious buffet breakfast with a very large selection of really yummy Japanese food. Also conveniently located next to all the Sounkyo attractions, and a 7/11 if you want to eat your own food at the hotel snack are.

Nice Onsens

The gentleman at the front desk from Guatemala was very helpful. I loved the onsens here … especially the mixed outdoor one at night. It had a nice vibe. It was walkable to 7/11 and other places in town. Parking was tricky in the evening, but managed to figure it out. The room was fine but a bit dated.

The mixed gender outdoor hot spring with swim wear provided was excellent. Our room had a mini zen garden inside, and we fell asleep to the sound of the river behind the hotel. Breakfast and dinner buffets provided ample options, including a make your own hotpot for one. A great place to relax and spend the night after exploring Kurodake ropeway and the surrounding portion of Daisetsuzan National Park.

Old school, old fashioned (read: dated decor, manual check-outs, actual keys for your room), traditional spa resort. The mixed onsen is great, lots of space and different temperatures so you can easily find your perfect spot. Definitely go half board as the evening buffet is excellent. Highly recommended.
