A small community center at the clock tower in the heart of the historic old town

The Ruhr River winds its way in an idyllic loop around Arnsberg’s Old Town. You’ll be staying in a half-timbered house dating back to 1708, right in the heart of the historic Old Town. The Old Town is striking for its many narrow alleys, charming half-timbered houses, towers, and gates. Perched high above it all are the ruins of what was once the castle of the Counts of Arnsberg.

And Arnsberg certainly doesn’t skimp on its pub culture or opportunities to enjoy hearty meals.

Directly across from the “Kleines Bürgerhaus” you’ll find the distillery.
It’s run with passion by Luci, a true native of the Sauerland region.
The “Destille” is the perfect place to start a pub crawl through Arnsberg.
You’ll meet some genuine Sauerland locals at the “Ratskeller” by the Maximilian Fountain. Cheers and Hendriks are also must-stops on this tour. You’ll find them on Steinweg, just a two-minute walk from the “Kleines Bürgerhaus.”
The Windsor Pub on the neoclassical Neumarkt is also worth a visit.
If you’re in the mood for pool, foosball, or darts, you’ll find plenty to enjoy here.

Would you like to treat yourself to a hearty meal?
Then walk through Arnsberg’s landmark, the bell tower, a few meters down the Alter Markt, and you’ll find two places right there where you can enjoy a hearty, traditional meal.
At the charming Altes Backhaus and the Ratskeller, you can enjoy hot meals all day long. In the summer, you can also dine in the beautiful beer gardens at these establishments.

The restaurant “Zum Alten Schloß” (known to Arnsberg locals simply as “Bei Nocko,” after the owner Norbert Menge) at Schloßstr. 21 offers the best schnitzel in town, served with a freshly poured half-liter from a stone mug, along with a magnificent view from the beer garden.

A little off the beaten path, but still only 300 meters away, the Arnsberger Mühlenbrauhaus is housed in a beautifully restored mill house. Here, you can enjoy a hearty meal paired with a beer or two brewed on the premises.

Or are you in the mood for pizza and pasta? Then head to “La Vita” for a delicious pizza straight from the stone oven.

Culture is also well represented in Arnsberg. The Sauerland Museum impresses not only with its architecture but also with its exciting permanent exhibition and exclusive, highly acclaimed special exhibitions. Definitely worth a visit.

After a relaxing night at the “Kleines Bürgerhaus,” are you in the mood for a hearty breakfast?
Then why not visit the Altstadtcafe Krengel (Sunday breakfast buffet), the Braubrüder at Neumarkt, or the Kemper Bakery? All within walking distance on Steinweg.

Enjoy your stay in Arnsberg (Ar or Arn, the medieval word for “eagle”), the “Pearl of the Sauerland,” and please feel free to contact me anytime if you have any questions.
