Your Catskills Escape Starts Here
Welcome to Bear House Catskills, a private three-bedroom retreat in Cairo, New York, with a spring-fed pond, catch-and-release fishing, birdwatching, a year-round hot tub, and a seasonal pool. With inviting spaces to gather, cozy corners to unwind, and plenty to enjoy right at the house, it’s a place to settle in and make yourself at home.
Spend mornings sipping coffee by the window or watching birds around the pond. Head out for hiking, waterfalls, small-town shopping, or local cafés. In winter, enjoy skiing and snowboarding in the surrounding Catskills, then return for a soak in the hot tub and a cozy evening beside the fireplace.
With three bedrooms, two full bathrooms and one half bathroom, a fully equipped kitchen, three TVs, and room for up to eight guests, Bear House is suited to a family vacation, a getaway with friends, or a quiet escape for two.
And because a getaway is better with your dog, dogs stay free. 🐾
Comfortable Bedrooms & Space to Settle In
The three bedrooms are located on the main level:
Primary bedroom: King bed and a private ensuite bathroom with a soaking tub, bidet and separate shower.
Second bedroom: One queen bed.
Third bedroom: Two queen beds.
A folding twin mattress is available for added sleeping flexibility. Maximum occupancy remains eight guests, regardless of the sleeping arrangements used.
The house has 2.5 bathrooms in total. Bathrooms have toe-kick heaters and heated toilet seats. Bed linens, towels and toiletries are provided.
Traveling with little ones? Two Pack ’n Plays and a high chair are available.
Gather, Cook & Get Comfortable
The living room offers comfortable seating and an indoor fireplace for relaxed evenings together. Choose a movie on one of the home’s three TVs, bring out a board game, or enjoy the record player and vinyl collection.
The fully equipped kitchen makes it easy to prepare anything from a quick breakfast to a shared dinner. You’ll find a refrigerator, stove, oven, microwave, dishwasher, coffee machine, cookware, dishes, and utensils.
Outside, a propane Weber grill and outdoor dining space invite you to linger over a meal and enjoy the setting.
Your Own Outdoor Retreat
Year-Round Hot Tub
Enjoy a soak in the hot tub in every season. It’s a welcoming way to unwind after hiking, skiing, snowboarding, or exploring nearby towns.
Seasonal Private Pool
The private outdoor pool is unheated and typically available from late May through late September. Opening and closing dates depend on weather and maintenance conditions, so please check with us if pool availability is important to your stay.
Spring-Fed Pond & Catch-and-Release Fishing
Bring your fishing gear and spend a peaceful afternoon by the private pond. Whether you’re an experienced angler or introducing the kids to fishing, there’s no need to leave the property to enjoy time by the water.
To protect our guests, wildlife, and pond:
All fishing is catch and release.
Swimming, wading, and skating are not permitted.
Children must be closely supervised by an adult around the pond, pool, and hot tub.
Please collect all fishing line, hooks, and other belongings before leaving the water’s edge.
Birdwatching & Quiet Moments Outdoors
Bring your binoculars, choose a comfortable spot, and see what visits during your stay. The pond and surrounding trees offer places to pause and watch for birds, whether birdwatching is a favorite hobby or simply a reason to slow down.
Enjoy a quiet morning with coffee, listen to birdsong, or bring a camera to capture whatever catches your eye. Wildlife sightings vary with the season and are never guaranteed.
Fire Pit & Room to Unwind
Gather around the fire pit for conversation and an evening outdoors. There’s also a hammock, a picnic table, and outdoor seating for reading, relaxing, or enjoying a slower pace.
Games, Rainy Days & Friendly Competition
Head downstairs to the basement game room for ping pong, magnetic darts, and time together. Board games, free weights, and yoga mats give you more ways to enjoy a day at the house.
The basement requires stairs and is a recreation space, not a designated sleeping area.
Work When You Need To
Wi-Fi and two desks make it possible to fit in some work between your Catskills adventures. When the laptop closes, the pond, hot tub, and outdoor spaces are waiting.
Explore the Catskills in Every Season
Spring & Summer
Plan days around hiking, waterfall overlooks, scenic drives, and visits to local towns. Browse shops, stop for coffee, or enjoy a leisurely lunch before returning to swim during pool season, fish by the pond, or cook dinner on the grill.
Fall
Make time for foliage drives, crisp-weather walks, and afternoons exploring local shops and cafés. Back at Bear House, settle in with a favorite record, soak in the hot tub, or spend the evening around the fire pit.
Winter Skiing & Snowboarding
Make Bear House your home base for skiing and snowboarding in the surrounding Catskills. After a day on the slopes, return to comfortable spaces, a home-cooked dinner, the indoor fireplace, and a year-round hot tub.
Mountain operations, trail conditions, lessons, and equipment rentals vary, so check directly with your chosen ski area when planning your visit.
Small Towns, Food & Local Finds
Leave time to explore the area’s restaurants, cafés, bakeries, shops, and galleries. Whether you prefer a full itinerary or a few spontaneous stops, you can mix outdoor adventures with time discovering local favorites.
You can also leave the itinerary open. Between birdwatching, fishing, swimming during pool season, games, and evenings around the fire, there’s plenty to enjoy without leaving the property.
