Situated within the National Park so make sure you check in on time. The Ark is a very cosy, wooden lodge. Fire lit in the lounge area which was welcome as it was very cold at night (early Oct) Staff provided hot water bottles for our beds which was a lovely touch The buzzer system at night is a novel experience and of course we responded by getting up in the night. Room was simple and clean Would benefit from new windows but otherwise lovely

The staff are amazingly helpful, polite and friendly. They made us feel incredibly welcome despite our very late arrival. The waterhole, good and service are great and this has been our experience in Kenya so far. Love the overnight buzzer system which alerts you based on number of buzzes as to which animals have arrived at the waterhole The Ark needs new windows and the shower takes a while to warm up. It is cozy though with the big log fire and the thoughtful provision of hot water bottles at night. Definitely worth staying at least one night. Note check in times It’s important as the Ark is inside the park

Really special place and overall experience. Can do better in calling out that the check in takes place in a different facility 20 minutes drive and that you need to add park fees to the total cost!

We had a wonderful stay. The Ark is nestled in the middle of the forest. As promised, animals come to the watering hole which you can view from balconies on each floor. We saw elephants, buffalos and baboons. One negative was the water in the shower took a very long time to get hot and the drain did not work properly, but other than that it was amazing.

Two things bring the otherwise good review down. The information given at the lodge and the map of the park provided was NOT ACCURATE causing us to drive completely down a path that was no longer in use and we almost got stuck. This even though we specifically asked if the map was up to date having been sold an inaccurate map in Nakuru before. Searching for the way to Wandare gate from the Ark cost us more than 2 hours. We had to cancel our planned hike due to the delay. Considering we are paying 40 000 KES for two days in the park (2 ppl) it is quite uppsetting that one day is wasted. The signs in the park are in a poor state, as are all picnicsites. None of that huge fee seems to ho to upkeep of the facilities! The food at the Ark is excellent, very tasty, but packed lunch for 2500 was a disappointment, 3 pieces of grilled chicken, a boring white bread sandwich, some chips, fruit, and a small chocolate. At that price you’d expect a very nice packed lunch - maybe quality sandwiches with chicken curry or meatballs, hummus and pita, pasta with pesto, fruit salad, real dessert etc. This packed lunch is worth about 1000-1500 KES. Lodge and location are otherwise great. Rooms good, comfortable beds but some shelves in the room and bathroom would be needed so guests can unpack a bit.
