Ventura, California, is a well-developed beach town. The city offers an exciting mix of local flavor that includes Main Street boutiques, cafes, coffee shops, thrift stores and theaters. For a more detailed look at the region's rich history, head over to the Museum of Ventura County, also on Main Street. Here you'll find a diverse collection of more than 30,000 pieces, including Spanish and Mexican-American artifacts.
When arriving by plane, you'll come to Ventura via the Los Angeles International Airport (LAX), approximately 70 miles north of the city. Santa Barbara Municipal Airport (SBA) is a less busy alternative. Metrolink and Amtrak provide rail service throughout the region, and Greyhound has a station in nearby Oxnard. Ventura is known for its many surfing competitions and prime surfing spots. If fishing is more your style, make your way to Ventura Harbor and rent a boat or buy some fishing equipment and see what you can catch from the pier.
Ventura has a Mediterranean climate similar to what's experienced in other coastal cities. The Pacific Ocean keeps temperatures relatively mild throughout the year with occasional fluctuations caused by the Santa Ana winds. You'll find most of the highly recommended seafood restaurants in Ventura Harbor Village and prime nightlife spots downtown.
