Skip the drive to Charleston AFB Municipal (CHS) and take the CARTA to the airport. This public transit option offers express bus services from downtown to the airport. Your flight should only take just over 90 minutes. After your flight to Newark International Airport (EWR), climb on the AirTrail rail service that runs 24 hours a day, 365 days a year and offers service to NJ Transit.
If you're a fan of hockey, check out the New Jersey Devils in their home stadium, the Prudential Center. Then, head to Military Park for a stroll. It welcomes visitors daily and offers plenty of green space and areas to sit and relax. It is also home to a seasonal farmers' market. End your day with a visit to Newark Symphony Hall where you can catch a concert.
If you seek a city feel, but prefer not to be right in the heart of things, select a hotel in Ironbound. To stay a bit further away from the city center, but still retain easy access via public transit, select accommodations in Montclair. Unless you absolutely love the snow, avoid Newark in the winter, when 28 inches of snow fall annually, on average. For easier exploration of the region, visit in the spring, fall or summer.
