Lambert - St Louis International Airport (STL) is about 10 miles northwest of downtown St. Louis and is serviced via major transportation routes I-70, I-270 and Highway 67.

Flight times from STL to San Francisco International Airport (SFO) are usually between four and seven hours and begin at 7 a.m. SFO is accessible via coastal Highway 101, and Highway 82 provides service westward to the interior.

Attractions and tips

No trip to San Francisco is complete without gazing upon the Golden Gate Bridge, a 1.7-mile span that is walkable and is considered one of the 7 Wonders of the Modern World. Alcatraz Island was a federal prison from 1934 through 1963 and housed Al Capone and Machine Gun Kelly.

Pier 39 is famous for its seafood and clam chowder, and it’s equally well-known views of the city and the bay. The Presidio is a national park site, which was once a military post, and now features recreational activities along with historic and architectural treasures. The Yerba Buena Gardens feature museums, public art, a children’s garden and an historic carousel.

San Francisco has relatively dry and warm - not hot - summers and mild winters, but its climate can be very unpredictable due to its proximity to the Pacific Ocean, San Francisco Bay and the Sierra Nevada Mountains coastal range. Expect a chilly, damp fog during May and June mornings and persistent overcast skies until afternoon.
