Portland International Airport (PDX) can be accessed using Interstate 5 for north or south travel and Interstate 205 coming from the east or the west. Travel usually takes around 30 to 45 minutes from the city of Portland to the airport.
The flight to Kahului Airport (OGG) lasts five hours and 30 minutes when traveling from PDX. Once there, you can choose to rent a car, or take a taxi, shuttle or public transportation to reach your destination.
Begin your Maui experience by checking out the Maui Swap Meet, a great place for visitors to find all sorts of treasures to bring home. This is the largest outdoor market on the island and you can get everything from souvenirs to fresh fruits and vegetables.
For many visitors, hiking around the island is the highlight of their trip. Check out the Twin Falls on the North Shore or the Makahiku Falls near Oheo Gulch. Both offer smaller hikes between a half-a-mile to two miles and are perfect for beginners.
Most of Maui’s beach resorts are near Ka’anapali, or the southwest coast of the island. If you’re looking to rent a condominium during your stay, check out Kihei. You can also stay at a B&B in this area. Flights to the other Hawaiian Islands leave daily from Maui, so you can easily visit other parts of the state during your stay.
