When you fly from Honolulu International Airport (HNL) to San Diego International Airport (SAN), you land just three miles away from the heart of San Diego city center, and just over six miles from Sea World. Visitors can rent a car at the airport and drive down North Harbor Drive, for scenic views of the San Diego Bay. If you have the time, venture over the Coronado Bridge and relax on the Coronado Beach.
Take North Harbor Drive from the airport to Nimitz Drive for a direct route to Sea World San Diego. North Harbor drive is also your direct route to the San Diego Zoo and Petco Park. Venturing further down the San Diego Bay, you will run into National City and Chula Vista. Branch off onto I-5 to reach a variety of restaurants, shopping centers and hotels.
If you want to stay close to San Diego, grab a picnic and go to Sunset Cliffs Natural Park. Parking is free, and the views are simply breathtaking.
It takes close to six hours to fly from Honolulu to San Diego without stops. If your flight has stops however, then it can take up to eight hours. Once you arrive, make your way to terminal 1 or 2 to rent a car. There are courtesy phones to call for shuttle service if necessary.
