Honolulu International (HNL) is located in Honolulu, Hawaii. Driving to HNL from downtown Honolulu takes up to 15 minutes via I-H1 W. San Francisco International (SFO) is located in San Francisco, CA, about 12 miles south of the main city. Flights usually last for four hours and 35 minutes from HNL to SFO. Driving up to San Francisco from SFO takes up to 20 minutes on US-101 N. The BART metro line also leaves from Garage G and goes to San Francisco, Oakland and San Mateo.

Attractions and Tips

San Francisco is widely known for its family-friendly atmosphere. The Exploratorium is a fun destination for kids. Waterfront Fisherman's Wharf is a popular neighborhood with shops, restaurants and Pier 39, which offers (distanced) viewing of delightful wild sea lions. Across the famous (and walkable!) Golden Gate Bridge lays the calming views and accessible trails of the Marin Headlands. Further north you can drive to the Napa and Sonoma wine country for wine tastings and vineyard front dining, such as The French Laundry.

Temperatures average from the mid 50s in winter to the upper 70s in the summer. San Francisco can be extremely windy during any time of the year. Driving in San Francisco can be tricky because of the extreme heights of the streets. Locals prefer to take taxis or bike. Cable cars (trolleys) are another way to get around and are iconic of San Francisco.
