The UCF Knights have an impressive legacy in college football, fighting their way all the way from Division III in 1979 to Division I. The brainchild of UCF's second president, Dr. Trevor Colbourn, the school's football program had a splashy debut with a 21-0 shutout at their inaugural game versus St. Leo University. Fans quickly rallied to support the Knights, becoming legendary fan base for being so loud they manage to distract the opposing teams. UCF Knights-USF Bulls games are especially rowdy as the Knights try to take down their in-state rival. In 1996 the Knights achieved entrance to Division I-A, where they have steadily grown into a threat. Recent years have been particularly exciting for the UCF Knights, as they snagged the 2014 Fiesta Bowl and the 2018 Peach Bowl, claiming that year's championship title. Many Knights go on to play in the NFL, including Super Bowl competitors like Asante Samuel and Shawn Jefferson.
