A musical force to be reckoned with
Toni Braxton got started singing as a child in her church choir, but soon she and her musical sisters banded together as The Braxtons. She launched a solo career in 1993 with her debut album, which climbed all the way to No. 1 on the charts and snagged her three Grammy Awards. Her sophomore album, Secrets, contained hit singles like "Un-Break My Heart." Afterwards she made history by being the first black woman to star in Broadway's Beauty and the Beast. Having settled a contract dispute, Braxton returned to the studio. She has expanded her career not just into Broadway, but also into television. Despite admitting in 2013 she was considering retirement, Braxton didn't slow down. In 2014 she and her frequent collaborator Babyface released Love, Marriage, & Divorce, which won the Grammy Award for Best R&B Album the following year.
